Up to this point in the learning process, these students have only had 2 types of exposure to non-fiction: textbooks and short articles. I believe as an English teacher, I should expose my students to as many types of literature as possible. This project has provided an opportunity to show my kids what a non-fiction book looks like in the novel length. Without these books, these students would have been trapped with a narrow perspective of non-fiction. These books will teach skills like critical reading, note-taking, and analyzing evidence; all while students are getting to read a mystery style of book that captivates their interest.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom students get to read whatever interests them about 70% of the school year. These books contribute to the other 30% of the year when I read to them, we have open class discussions about what is read, and I am able to model close reading skills to them each day. Modeling these skills is incredibly important and leads to confident independent readers. \r\n\r\nI have a select group of readers who have grown very interested in non-fiction and historical fiction after reading \"Night\" by Elie Wiesel. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to provide the books to help foster this budding love of reading for years to come. Your donations have directly assisted me in supporting these students and my words cannot fully express the impact these books will have on my students.","fullyFundedDate":1756682428147,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-new-perspectives-books-about-the/9614330/","projectTitle":"Seeing New Perspectives: Books About the Past","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Goodman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10183743_orig.jpg?crop=1451,1451,x816,y695&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755399198587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10183743"},{"teacherId":10005180,"projectId":9279471,"letterContent":"On behalf of Gore Public Schools and our brand-new high school chess team, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution toward our travel chess boards.
