Your donations provided a set of micro:bits for my 5th grade students to use while coding in computer science. Our curriculum provides a virtual simulation of the micro:bit, and my students were THRILLED when they had a tangible piece of hardware with which they are able to code. \r\n\r\nThe first project we completed with the micro:bits was a virtual \"Nametag.\" Students created a code on their devices and downloaded it onto the micro:bit. When they successfully completed the project, the micro:bit scrolled their name across the LED lights on the face of the micro:bit.\r\n\r\nI have several students who have gone above and beyond expectations, and have started programming advanced games and activities with their micro:bit. It has been so much fun to watch their creativity in action. We're using them in before school club to explore engineering, problem-solving, and teamwork. \r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate and contagious! As soon as the students saw the boxes of LEGO sets, their eyes lit up and the room buzzed with energy. Some couldn't believe that these were actually for them to use in class. A few even said, \"This is the best day ever!\" They dove right in, and it was heartwarming to see how engaged and motivated they were to learn through play.\r\n\r\nWe're currently expanding our creations by incorporating storytelling into their creations, encouraging them to write narratives or present their models to the peers. We have played many games and activities with the new items. With the frisbees and cones we have played a version of frisbee golf. We also used the frisbees in a reindeer game before Christmas break. The hippity hops have been used for races and earned free time. We also were able to turn the hippity hops upside down on buckets and do an aerobic drumming activity. The kids really loved that. The older kids are learning to use the pogo sticks which teach balance and leg strength. The cones have been used in an array of games and activities!
