Your support made it possible for our students to engage deeply with a powerful work of fiction that not only enriched their understanding of both American and Ghanaian history but also fostered personal connections to their own cultural ancestry.\r\n\r\nThrough Homegoing, we explored key themes in American history, such as the brutal legacy of slavery, the complex system of convict leasing, and the devastating impact of the Fugitive Slave Act. The novel provided a lens through which we could examine these issues from multiple perspectives, allowing students to make connections between historical events and their enduring effects on contemporary society.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the novel's portrayal of Ghana's history, from the transatlantic slave trade to the emergence of post-colonial identity, was an invaluable learning experience. One of our students, whose family hails from Ghana, found particular resonance in the narrative. The book allowed them to reflect on their personal heritage in a meaningful way, deepening their connection to both the past and their present identity.\r\n\r\nAs a culminating project, students had the opportunity to research and present aspects of their own cultural ancestry, drawing inspiration from the novel. This assignment not only allowed them to explore their own roots but also encouraged a greater appreciation for the diverse histories that make up our global community.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for your contribution, which made this educational experience possible. Your generosity has had a profound impact on our students, and we sincerely thank you for your commitment to supporting their growth and learning.","fullyFundedDate":1727979237052,"projectUrl":"project/homegoing-novel-for-cultural-studies/8831764/","projectTitle":"Homegoing Novel for Cultural Studies!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. York","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8675033_orig.jpg?crop=547,547,x460,y209&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727377527944","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8675033"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_84178","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1635,"numTeachers":102,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":84178,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Thomas Worthington High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Thomas Worthington High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/worthington-school-district/thomas-worthington-high-school/84178"}
