My students love designing and creating, and this project has given them the meaningful opportunity to design products for real people.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students are using sublimation acrylic sheets to create customized items such as keychains and bookmarks for a client. Throughout the process, they are developing social-emotional skills by asking thoughtful questions, practicing reflective listening, and learning how to design with someone else's needs and personality in mind. They are also applying math, measurement, and design skills as they create prototypes and refine their ideas using design software.\r\n\r\nWith these materials, I was able to teach a full design cycle—from client interview to prototype to finished product. Students laser cut their final designs and use a heat press to sublimate their artwork onto the acrylic, combining technical precision with creativity. The pride students feel when they deliver a finished product to their client is incredible.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping create an authentic learning experience where students build confidence, practice empathy, and see how their skills can be used to make something meaningful for others.","fullyFundedDate":1746478660916,"projectUrl":"project/sublimation-station/9192242/","projectTitle":"Sublimation Station","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Novicky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5107476_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516638065458","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5107476"},{"teacherId":5107476,"projectId":9812966,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our makerspace and helping us bring creativity and confidence to STEM learning. The addition of this material has made projects more approachable and exciting, encouraging students to take risks, test ideas, and refine their work with pride.\r\n\r\nThis support allowed me to create a learning environment where creativity and engineering go hand in hand. Many students who were hesitant to jump into technical projects are now eager to participate, experiment, and share their designs with others. They are sketching ideas, engineering lightweight structures, experimenting with balance and motion, and adding creative details using materials like resin, jewelry findings, balloons, and zip ties. Reading Balloons Over Broadway has helped them understand the history and creativity behind the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and they are excited to apply that inspiration to their own robotic parade floats.\r\n\r\nThis project has allowed me to teach important STEM concepts—such as structure, balance, and movement—while also encouraging creativity, storytelling, and design thinking. Many of my students have never worked with materials that combine art and engineering, and this experience has given them confidence, excitement, and a new way to see themselves as makers and innovators.\r\n\r\nThe project will conclude with a school-wide \"Robot Broadway Parade,\" where students proudly showcase their robot-powered floats to the entire school community. Students are more intentional in their planning and more confident in their creative decisions because they can test ideas before animating.\r\n\r\nBecause of these materials, I am able to teach animation in a more authentic, industry-aligned way.
