We decided as a 12th grade fourth quarter final sendoff that we would do literature circles. This way the last book that a student may possibly read will be an extra, especially good one. They usually have 3 to 4 options and this year we decided to add in Colson Whitehead's The Nickel Boys. \r\n\r\nWe selected this text because of its African-American, male protagonist, its historical lens, it's having won the Pulitzer Prize in Literature, and it is just a damn good book. We attempted to get multiple copies that were translated into Spanish as many of our students are bilingual. Being able to use the ipad to refine their digital design gave them the control in drawing and refining details that is easier and more fun to do on an iPad.\r\nStudents are also using the iPad to create videos and document their work and working process to show evidence of their skills.\r\nThe iPad is a great tool for students and allows them to work on a screen that allows them more flexibility and creativity.
