I was shocked by my students reactions to being able to clean their computers. Middle-schoolers meet most teacher requests with eye rolls and \"are we going to get in trouble if we don't?\", but my students lit up at the idea of taking some cleaning time. They were also stunned to hear that they really shouldn't be using hand-sanitizer sprayed on a tissue to wipe down their screens... We talked about how to properly clean the displays with the screen wipes and how to clean out their keyboards with compressed air. Plus, we were able to clean out some stubborn keyboard spots with the computer cleaning kits (and learn why we don't eat lunch and watch Youtube at the same time).\r\n\r\nTheir reactions to having clean computers were the best part. Some of the best quotes were \"wow, so shiny\" and \"bruh, this thing was gross\". This all led to a constructive conversation about how taking care of your possessions not only makes them last longer, but also leaves the positive mental impact of giving yourself a clean learning space. While twelve-years are reluctant to admit that their teacher is right, there was quite a bit of head-nodding as they listened. We decided that this Chromebook care was going to be added as part of our Friday routine; grades check, computer cleaning, then missing homework. It was great to have the students see a direct, positive result of taking responsibility.\r\n\r\nOn the days where we did give out computers a break, the document camera, pens, and colored pencils played a huge role. The red and greens colors carried the team as we made our way through the Integers Unit. Using the greens for positive and reds for negatives allowed my students to have a much better visual understanding of some very abstract concepts. My students even seemed to be catching on to calculations so quickly that I was able to have them infer patterns and come up with the mathematical rules without being directly told. This is a HUGE difference from previous school years, where I felt like all I could do as a teacher was force them to memorize rules, and watch them struggle to understanding the meaning behind it all. Some students even recognized how helpful it was and took the initiative to use the colors, even when I had not required them too. \r\n\r\nThe success of this project is shown in just how much a group of 12- and 13-year-olds were taking an active role in their own education. We often label the age range as \"lazy\" or \"difficult\" but in reality they are just at an age where they need to see an immediate result to believe in a long-term habit. The materials donated by you have given students the exact kind of support they need as they start good practices now that will serve them later in life. \r\n\r\nThank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1758836948170,"projectUrl":"project/chromebooks-need-love-too-and-maybe-a-b/9757650/","projectTitle":"Chromebooks Need Love Too! Students are using the equipment to build rhythm, coordination, and endurance while staying fully engaged in movement. One of my favorite moments was the very first day we introduced the drums—students walked in, saw the equipment set up around the room, and immediately started buzzing with excitement. A few even asked, \"Are we really doing this in PE?\" before we had even started class.\r\n\r\nDuring our first routine, even students who are usually hesitant to participate were smiling, laughing, and keeping the beat alongside everyone else. The combination of music and movement has created an inclusive environment where students feel more confident trying new things. These materials have also allowed us to incorporate teamwork, timing, and pattern-building in ways that fit naturally into the physical education curriculum.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to have students create their own cardio drumming sequences. They'll choose their music, design movements that match the rhythm, and then lead small groups through their routines. This will build leadership skills, creativity, and collaboration—all while keeping fitness fun and accessible. Your support has turned a simple idea into an exciting part of our PE program, and our students are truly feeling the beat thanks to you.","fullyFundedDate":1752929807819,"projectUrl":"project/feel-the-beat-cardio-drumming-for-middl/9447371/","projectTitle":"Feel the Beat: Cardio Drumming for Middle School Fitness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stefansic","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9556355_orig.png?crop=646,646,x0,y398&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751812695211","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amy-stefansic"},{"teacherId":9556355,"projectId":9447396,"letterContent":"With 50 different exercise cards to mix and match, students have been able to design personalized workouts that meet their individual needs, goals, and interests. This has given them the freedom to take ownership of their fitness while learning how to create effective routines. They've quickly discovered how to balance strength, cardio, flexibility, and recovery, and it's been amazing to watch them think critically about what their bodies need.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was the first day we used the cards. Students walked in and immediately gathered around the table, picking them up, trading them with each other, and explaining why certain exercises \"fit their style.\" A few students who normally hesitate during workouts were suddenly excited to build a circuit that matched their comfort level. Seeing the spark of curiosity and confidence on their faces was something I won't forget.\r\n\r\nWe use the cards very frequently. Students rotate through stations they created themselves, track their progress, and reflect on how their choices impact their performance. They've become more engaged, more responsible, and more motivated to push themselves in safe, meaningful ways. The resource has allowed students who typically struggle with participation to feel empowered because they can choose exercises that meet them where they are.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to have students create full workout plans that include warm-ups, main lifts, circuits, and cooldowns. They will design routines not just for themselves, but for a \"partner coaching\" project where they teach another student how to follow the workout they created. This builds communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills—all while keeping fitness at the center.\r\n\r\nIn a community where many students lack access to structured fitness opportunities outside of school, these cards have become more than just materials—they're teaching tools that build confidence, independence, and lifelong healthy habits. Your support has made a real and lasting impact on our students' well-being, and we are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1753370357584,"projectUrl":"project/create-your-workout-empowering-students/9447396/","projectTitle":"Create Your Workout: Empowering Students to Stay Active","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stefansic","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9556355_orig.png?crop=646,646,x0,y398&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751812695211","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amy-stefansic"},{"teacherId":9556355,"projectId":9447424,"letterContent":"The addition of our new iPad and color printer has had a huge impact on my students and the way we learn and move in Physical Education. The iPad has become a daily part of our routine—it's used for fitness workouts, Tabata-style warm-ups, music, demonstrations, and student evaluations. Having this technology available allows me to create lessons that are more dynamic, interactive, and tailored to students' energy and interests.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, movement can sometimes feel like a requirement, but using the iPad to play music, display visual workouts, and track progress has made it fun, modern, and engaging. They love seeing new workout timers, following along to upbeat routines, and even taking turns leading a portion of the warm-up using the screen. It gives them ownership and pride in what they're doing.\r\n\r\nThe color printer has also made a big difference. I've been able to print vibrant visuals, posters, and student certificates that bring positive attention to their efforts. Something as simple as a colorful recognition sheet or a visually clear station sign helps make our gym space feel more welcoming and professional—just like a real fitness facility.\r\n\r\nA few students who were previously reluctant to participate have especially warmed up to using the iPad during class. The music and interactive visuals have helped them feel more comfortable and confident joining in. Technology has truly bridged the gap between movement and motivation in my classroom.\r\n\r\nThanks to this project, our PE space feels more connected, current, and exciting—and my students are more eager than ever to stay active.","fullyFundedDate":1753899955100,"projectUrl":"project/powering-pe-with-tech-tools-for-movemen/9447424/","projectTitle":"Powering PE with Tech: Tools for Movement and Motivation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stefansic","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9556355_orig.png?crop=646,646,x0,y398&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751812695211","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amy-stefansic"},{"teacherId":5782520,"projectId":9010953,"letterContent":"On behalf of my middle school students and myself, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of headphones to our classroom.
