Students were required to fill out job applications for the project. The job choices were project manager, pilot, navigator, builders, and designers. Because the pilots and navigators had to read the instruction manual prior to flying the drone, I thought less students would apply to be the pilot. However, I was wrong. Thanks to your donation, the students were able to have a drone assigned to their specific group in each class period. This helped facilitate teamwork and collaboration. Each member of the class was engaged and tried their best throughout the entire project.\r\n\r\nThe students were very excited to design an obstacle course, and many of them used the hula hoops for at least one of their required obstacles. Flying a drone through a specific spot is much tougher than most students imagined. The competition element of the project also inspired students to step up their game. For example, some of the pilots learned how to do flips with the drone and added those difficulties to their course plan in order to gain more points. Another example is the way students upped their levels of creativity. Many groups used the cones to model trees, mountains, and even Santa hats to make their courses fit into a theme of their choice.\r\n\r\nThe students loved this project, and it was so nice to see them learn how to problem-solve and share ideas in such a unique project. Without your help, we could not have been as successful. Thank you so much for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1758065539186,"projectUrl":"project/put-yourself-in-someone-elses-shoes/9677105/","projectTitle":"Put Yourself in Someone Else’s Shoes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Koons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10239299"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94169","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":835,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":25,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":94169,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hyatts Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hyatts Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/olentangy-local-school-district/olentangy-hyatts-middle-school/94169"}
