Because of people like you, my \r\nclass full of lively kindergarteners have two different classroom rugs to play and learn, rest and relax, and continue to learn and grow as a classroom community. \r\n\r\nOne rug in this project is used as a whole group carpet in our classroom. This rug is located at the front of the classroom and serves as a meeting place, a story time discussion area, and a place to gather all friends before moving onto another activity. The carpet is large enough that all friends have their own place to sit and move around comfortably without hurting their neighbors- which is a necessity in kindergarten! \r\n\r\nThe second rug in this project is located in the back of the room in the classroom library area. This rug serves as a calming area, a place where students can grab a book and cozy up with a book buddy, or to safely move away from other peers to minimize distractions and frustrations when our little minds have big emotions. \r\n\r\nWithout your generous donation, my classroom would not have the carpet space to do all the necessary things that we do in kindergarten. From tents and cushions, to pretend campfires and smores, students had an absolute blast! The single copy of books that have been used for a first chapter readings each week. They are learning how to spot reading elements throughout the book. This book has helped the students participate in genuine group discussions, teaching them how to be patient, wait their turn, and agree/disagree in a respectful manner. \r\nWith all of the books that were donated I have had 80% of my students show interest in at least one of the new books that were donated. There were many behavior challenges in the middle school. I was the new intervention specialist, and I had a Titanic iceberg to break with the students. They had dismal staff turnover last year, and new teachers would not earn trust easily. Their reading and math scores were very low in the autumn diagnostic tests, so we had our work cut out for us.\r\nThe gifts of musical instruments were a great icebreaker with the students on my caseload. The students who took keyboard lessons and ukulele lessons all made significant gains in the iReady reading and math tests by the end of the year. The karaoke machine was fun to use for reading aloud song lyrics. It helped with fluency. The equipment is durable and we will be using it more next year. Thank you all for your donations.
