Many of them have limited access to books at home, so having more books to grow the classroom library has made a difference in the reading material available to them. In class, we've been working on how to expand our interests beyond what it is comfortable to help find books that might intrigue or tempt the imagination. We discuss their interests and look through the library to find ones that might appeal to them. They look forward to finding new books. We've also been practicing how to find the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary words using context clues. It's been a tricky skill, but several of them are slowly beginning to understand how to do it. \r\n\r\nEvery students gets around an hour of independent reading time in my class each week. We read in our reading groups, and they are allowed to find a comfy spot in the room to settle down and read for 30 minutes each day. They are also allowed to read if they finish their work early or after they complete their morning work before morning meeting. They're currently practicing how to read silently as many of them have difficulty with that skill. I have a lot of students who are enjoying Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, and Dog Man. One of my students is currently reading Matilda, and I catch her reading more than anyone else. She was even reading it one day during bus dismissal because she was loving it that much. We're using the book to currently track her comprehension by discussing what problems the main character is facing and how she's solving them. These books have really changed many of my students' lives by growing their interests in books and providing them the opportunity to read at home.","fullyFundedDate":1754146962534,"projectUrl":"project/a-magical-library/9452358/","projectTitle":"A Magical Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stately","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10073531_orig.jpg?crop=551,551,x2042,y860&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760320635229","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10073531"},{"teacherId":9540609,"projectId":8395602,"letterContent":"Thank you again so much for your contributions to my Project last school year! These items have played a crucial role in ensuring that over 100 seventh and eighth grade students have access to their basic needs, allowing them to focus on their education without worrying about their well-being. The hygiene items, such as soap, toothbrushes, hand sanitizers, and feminine hygiene products, have helped students maintain personal cleanliness and prevent the spread of illness, which is especially important in a school setting. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the provision of nutritious snacks has ensured that students receive the necessary fuel for both their physical growth and mental development.
