We recently used the STEM kits, and my students were fully engaged—reading, exploring, and collaborating in ways that weren't possible before. During our lesson students were able to hold actual fossils and bird feathers and they were just so amazed! We have used the materials to build models, conduct experiments, research independently, and create presentations.\r\n\r\nWhen my students saw the new materials, their faces lit up! There was a lot of curiosity. Several students immediately began asking, \"Can we use this today?\" It was a powerful moment that showed just how much access to quality materials can inspire learning.","fullyFundedDate":1739373777172,"projectUrl":"project/indoor-recess-and-a-100-percent-chance-o/8984327/","projectTitle":"Indoor Recess and a 100 Percent Chance of STEM!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shirk","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8390392_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690582125956","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8390392"},{"teacherId":9748280,"projectId":8779230,"letterContent":"I am overwhelmed with gratitude as I write this letter to express my heartfelt appreciation for your generosity and kindness. Thanks to your incredible support, my students now have access to Slumberkins stuffed animals and books, a variety of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) books, and an assortment of fidgets and other tools to help them regulate their emotions and find calm in moments of need. Your donations have made a meaningful impact on my classroom, and I cannot thank you enough for believing in my students and their emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nIn our 2nd grade classroom, one of my greatest priorities is to create a safe and nurturing environment where students feel valued, understood, and supported. At this stage in their development, children are learning not only academic skills but also essential life skills, including how to navigate their emotions, build positive relationships, and develop resilience in the face of challenges. Your contributions have provided resources that make these lessons more engaging, meaningful, and impactful.\r\n\r\nThe Slumberkins stuffed animals and books have quickly become some of the most treasured items in our classroom. Each Slumberkin character comes with a beautifully written story that teaches students important lessons about emotions, self-acceptance, and coping strategies. Whether it's the comforting embrace of Bigfoot, teaching self-esteem, or the loving presence of Otter, promoting connection and the importance of healthy relationships,my students have found a special connection to these characters. It is truly heartwarming to see them reach for a Slumberkin during times of stress or uncertainty, hugging it tightly as they read or listen to a story that reminds them they are not alone in their feelings.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the Slumberkins, the Social Emotional Learning books you helped provide have been instrumental in guiding class discussions about emotions, kindness, and self-regulation. These books serve as a foundation for important conversations about handling big feelings, treating others with empathy, and understanding that mistakes are a part of learning and growing. As we read together, I witness students making connections to the characters and situations, sharing their own experiences, and offering each other words of encouragement. These moments are incredibly powerful, reinforcing the message that emotions are natural and manageable with the right tools and strategies.\r\n\r\nAnother incredible gift from your generosity is the collection of fidgets that are now available in our cool-down corner. These small but mighty tools have provided my students with an effective way to manage their emotions and refocus their energy when needed. The difference I have seen in my students' ability to self-regulate is remarkable, and I credit that to having access to tools that allow them to calm down in a healthy and constructive way.\r\n\r\nBeyond the physical items themselves, what your donation has truly provided is the gift of empowerment. You have given my students tools that will not only support them in the classroom but will also help them develop lifelong coping strategies that they can carry with them beyond these walls. They are learning that their feelings are valid, that they have the power to manage them, and that they are surrounded by people who care about their well-being.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has reaffirmed my belief in the power of kindness and community. It is incredibly touching to know that there are people like you who believe in the importance of social-emotional learning and who are willing to invest in the emotional growth of young children. Your support has made a difference not just in our classroom but in the lives of each of my students. They may not know your names, but they certainly feel the love and kindness that you have extended to them through these resources.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students and myself, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your generosity has brought comfort, joy, and valuable learning experiences into our classroom. The impact of your kindness will be felt for years to come as my students continue to grow, learn, and develop into emotionally intelligent, compassionate individuals.","fullyFundedDate":1733183622606,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-tools-for-titl/8779230/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Learning Tools For Title 1 Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Campbell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9748280"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_85541","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":259,"numTeachers":12,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":52,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"21.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":50.8,"schoolId":85541,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Springmill STEM Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Springmill STEM Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/mansfield-city-schools/springmill-intermediate-school/85541"}
