By providing the copies of The Magical Yet, The Marvelous Now, and The Curious Why, you haven't just filled bookshelves—you've given our students a shared language for navigating their world.\r\n\r\nOur Washington Reads program brings middle schoolers into our building to read these books to our elementary school students. The energy is electric. Our mentors lead guided reflections that turn abstract concepts into tangible skills. Through these texts, students are learning:\r\nCognitive Reframing: Shifting from \"I can't\" to \"I can't yet.\"\r\nMindfulness: Learning to anchor themselves in the \"Marvelous Now\" to manage anxiety.\r\nInquiry-Based Learning: Using \"The Curious Why\" to approach challenges with interest rather than frustration.\r\n\r\nThe impact on our middle school mentors has been profound. I'm thinking specifically of a few of my more reserved eighth graders who used to shy away from any public speaking. Seeing them command a room of wide-eyed first graders with confidence and empathy has been nothing short of a revelation. They aren't just reading stories; they are realizing that they have the power to influence their school culture for the better. \r\n\r\nBecause every classroom now has its own permanent copy of these books, the lessons don't end when the mentors leave. We are already seeing teachers use \"The Yet\" as a shorthand for perseverance during tough math lessons. You have helped us create a sustainable cycle of leadership and resilience that will benefit these students long after they leave our school. Thank you for investing in our student leaders and for believing in the power of a good book to change a community.","fullyFundedDate":1767230830132,"projectUrl":"project/peer-power-cultivating-sel-through-the/9932450/","projectTitle":"Peer Power: Cultivating SEL through The Magical Trilogy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dugan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp112372_orig.jpg?crop=800,800,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749514158299","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-dugan"},{"teacherId":3850175,"projectId":9936172,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for making a donation to my preschool classroom. The doll house is beautiful. It also has a natural aesthetic that creates a calming quiet area to play. The diverse sets of dolls allow my students to see themselves in their toys and embrace a variety of appearances. It has quickly become the most popular spot in my classroom.
