Each bag contained calming tools such as: noise cancelling headphones, sit spot, fidgets, pinwheel used as a visual for deep breathing, bubbles, fidgets, and cold pack. Parents were trained on the tools during parent teacher conferences so they could see how each tool is used with the students. \r\n\r\nHaving all the tools in the bags made it very convenient for the student to carry with them in all environments. I had parents say how helpful the portable kit was during difficult situations such as going grocery shopping or to a restaurant. The bags were big enough to add more personalized items to use for the student as well. \r\n\r\nWith all my heart I would like to say Thank You! This has been one of the most vital programs I have every put together . I have teamed up with the preschool teachers and paraprofessionals to teach our preschoolers how to use our new weighted or vibrating stuff animals. \r\n\r\nIt is a known fact that children will often seek bear hugs from parents/caretakers when they feel scared, sick, or tired. When parents are not around, and they are at school they still seek that deep pressure that hugs provide as they can be very calming. That got me thinking why not have comfort items such as a weighted dinosaur, or a vibrating ladybug to sit with the kids during circle time or at rest time. \r\n\r\nOccupational therapy and speech therapy has been collaborating to not only teach the kids how to use the equipment but also be able to communicate the need for a bear hug. We have students who has started to use a bear hug picture, sign, or a communication device to request a bear hug. Once they ask for one they can pick one of our fuzzy friends from the cart where they live when they are not being hugged. Thank you for funding this very heartwarming project and providing my little one's bear hugs every day!","fullyFundedDate":1733351675789,"projectUrl":"project/bear-hugs-needed-please/8896943/","projectTitle":"Bear Hugs Needed Please!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Farrah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9490405_orig.jpg?crop=718,718,x0,y93&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721667614561","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9490405"},{"teacherId":9490405,"projectId":8511238,"letterContent":"I am so excited to share how we have been utilizing the materials that were purchased with your generous donation. With the fine motor activities 1.) Hoot the Fine Motor Owl, 2.) The ring tree moose, and 3.) Apple sorting we have rotated these task within our fine motor station. These activities help our students work improving their eye hand coordination skills. Some of our students have difficulties attending during whole group activities therefore we use these activities as sensory regulation activities. Allowing our students to work alongside the group activity at their own pace bringing calmness to their mind and body. \r\n\r\nWe have a couple students who are more cognitively involved that require more simplistic activities. to encourage engagement. With your purchase of the tot tubes and the box of scarves we have been working on these goals. We have discovered that the one little boy is highly motivated by using the scarves. He will belly laugh with the scarves are thrown in the air. We have a little girl who loves to drop small items down the tot tube. Again, this is accomplishing the engagement and self regulation areas of development. \r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our preschool classrooms.
