The books you have provided allowed my students to explore World War II and the Holocaust in a very personal way. The stories of young people experiencing war, loss, discrimination and finding friendship, resilience, and hope were inspiring to them. \r\n\r\nMany of my students, both young women and men, were able to identify with these characters. Their interests were piqued; my students have come to class poised with questions about not only events, but asking how and why so many people fell for the propaganda and disinformation of of Hitler's Germany, Japan, and even America during this time period. Your donation made history approachable and real for my students.\r\n\r\nStudent have read in small groups with guiding questions, and I have been so pleased to see that many of them read ahead at home. Many of my students find reading mentally taxing, but almost all of my students were genuinely excited to keep going. Everyone wanted to know what happened next. \r\n\r\nThis novel study not only inspired my students to keep reading and engage in classroom discussion, it also provided them with prior knowledge and a personal connection to historical material as we then engaged with our textbook and primary source documents from the period.
