With these books my students have been able to engage with historical content and hone their reading and writing skills simultaneously.\r\n History and geography are often seen as \"boring\" my students. They get caught up in names of old men and dates of famous battles and struggle to identify with the people and themes of eras. Traditional history textbooks don't make the stories of ancient civilizations, the invention of new technologies, battles over land, resources, or the beauty of Helen of Troy real to middle school students. The books that have been provided have allowed my students to feel the fear of a young girl in Salem during the witch trials, see the courage of a runaway slave taking their freedom, and be awed by the adventures of Hercules. \r\n In both my 7th and 8th grades classes, I have assigned book projects that coordinate with some units of study. For example, when we studies the early colonial era, students had the option of reading \"A Break with Charity,\" \"The Fifth of March,\" or Jonny Tremain. Students selected the book of their choice, used both in class and out of class time to read and discuss the context of the book, and then they wrote an essay comparing the events of the fiction book with the historic record. To complete the essay, students used the novels provided, our classroom textbook, and primary sources from the colonial period. \r\n My students typically struggle with reading, writing, and advanced analysis of information. I was so amazed at how my students really embraced the stories these books brought to life; they were able to see themselves in the protagonists. They were then interested and willing to push themselves to learn more about the time period and sequence of events surrounding their chosen topics. \r\n I have several students who barely complete daily classwork, and never return homework, but for these projects they ready every chapter, participated in classroom discussions and wrote an essay. I am looking forward to using these books year after year, and continuing to grow the library to offer greater selection to my students. I can't express enough how much these books mean to my students and to me.","fullyFundedDate":1763054805084,"projectUrl":"project/a-library-through-time/9566025/","projectTitle":"A Library Through Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Monroe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10072373_orig.jpg?crop=1870,1870,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767629559768","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10072373"},{"teacherId":8368310,"projectId":9664199,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support and investment in our learning space. Your contribution has made it possible for us to add an air filtration system to our 3D printer, and we are truly grateful for your commitment to student learning and safety.\r\n\r\nThis air filtration system plays an important role in both the quality of our work and the health of our classroom environment. By removing airborne particles and fine dust produced during the 3D printing process, the system helps create a cleaner, dust-free space. This not only supports better air quality for students and staff, but also reduces the buildup of particles that can interfere with the printing process.\r\n\r\nWith cleaner air around the printer, our students are able to achieve stronger, more precise print builds with fewer defects. This allows them to focus on design, problem-solving, and innovation rather than troubleshooting print issues caused by environmental factors. The result is a more reliable learning experience and higher-quality student projects.\r\n\r\nYour generosity directly enhances hands-on learning opportunities and helps us maintain a safe, high-quality educational environment. Your support equips students with essential tools such as measuring instruments and data-collection resources that help transform abstract concepts into real-world understanding. By using these materials, students are able to conduct experiments with greater precision, analyze results, and develop a stronger foundation in scientific and mathematical reasoning.\r\n\r\nYour donations also play a critical role in teaching students the importance of accuracy, consistency, and critical thinking in STEM learning. As students collect and interpret measurable data, they gain hands-on experience with the scientific process and learn how evidence supports conclusions. These skills are fundamental not only to STEM careers but also to problem-solving in everyday life. These hands-on experiences encourage problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation while helping students take pride in their work.\r\n\r\nYour contributions also strongly support students who learn best through a tactile learning modality. By working directly with materials—cutting, assembling, measuring, and constructing—students deepen their understanding of STEM concepts through touch and movement. This type of learning reinforces critical thinking and helps concepts \"stick\" in ways that traditional instruction alone cannot. We are deeply thankful for your generosity and the lasting impact it has on student confidence, curiosity, and success in STEM learning.","fullyFundedDate":1762266266539,"projectUrl":"project/creative-supplies-for-imaginative-stem-p/9709427/","projectTitle":"Creative Supplies for Imaginative STEM Projects","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dickman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8368310_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1687560040418","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8368310"},{"teacherId":8368310,"projectId":9664090,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support in purchasing color printer ink for our program.
