This project has helped expand my students imaginations. It's taking them away from screens and the constant need for immediate dopamine and allowing them to visualize stories they haven't read before. \r\nWe are currently immersed in the first book of the Percy Jackson series and the students LOVE it. Many had never heard of it let alone knew there was a movie. I never thought I'd be able to use reading as an incentive in my classroom, especially with 5th graders but they beg to read a chapter every ounce of free time we get. When I'm reading I try my best to read with prosody so students can visualize what's happening. They're typically completely silent, working on their classwork or homework, while listening to each word very carefully. I know they're paying attention because I'll have to remind them to continue working while reading or they'll chime in with a question or realization about a big turning point in the book. They're doing so well predicting what will happen. \r\nThe times I can't read the book, students reach for the many others that I have on our shelf. They quietly read through them instead of asking to play a game on their laptops for once. They love every book on our shelf and it's thanks to you for helping turn our classroom into a variety of worlds for students to find themselves in when reading.","fullyFundedDate":1749077715762,"projectUrl":"project/new-books-for-empty-shelves/9353747/","projectTitle":"New Books for Empty Shelves","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zielke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9636298"},{"teacherId":8530061,"projectId":9224799,"letterContent":"My students will have many benefits from your generosity.
