Having individual copies transformed our reading time into a more engaging, interactive experience. Students were not only able to follow along closely but also reflect and truly take ownership of their reading. For many of them, this was the first time they had a book of their own to keep—and the pride and excitement that came with that ownership were visible every day.\r\n\r\nThe themes in The One and Only Ivan sparked rich, thoughtful discussions in our classroom. We explored topics such as friendship, empathy, courage, and animal welfare—ideas that deeply resonated with my students. They connected with the characters on a personal level and often continued conversations about the story during lunch, recess, and even at home. Several students who previously struggled with engagement began participating more actively in our literacy activities, showing increased confidence and curiosity. The books became a common thread that united us as readers and thinkers.\r\n\r\nBeyond academic growth, the shared reading experience helped foster a stronger classroom community. Students supported each other during challenging chapters, celebrated character victories together, and developed a shared love for storytelling. Many began requesting similar books or authors during library time, showing a renewed enthusiasm for independent reading. Thanks to this project, these books became more than just texts—they became tools for building empathy, literacy skills, and lasting memories in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1744295536141,"projectUrl":"project/a-one-and-only-adventure-for-my-third-gr/9231617/","projectTitle":"A One and Only Adventure for My Third Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dillon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6684670_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1567047993542","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/j-dillon"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_84726","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":570,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":98,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"20.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.0,"schoolId":84726,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dawson - Bryant Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dawson - Bryant Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/dawson-bryant-local-sch-dist/dawson-bryant-elementary-school/84726"}
