Your support has made a meaningful impact in our classroom.\r\nThanks to your donation, my students are now able to code, control robots, and create designs using our Cricut machine. They've been developing code for our Mini Baby Bertha robots and accessing essential websites for programming—something that was previously delayed due to district restrictions. This computer has helped us bypass those delays, allowing students to complete their work more efficiently and stay engaged in real-time learning.\r\nThe Cricut machine has also become a beloved tool in our classroom. With the new computer, students can now access Cricut Design Space to personalize their Mini Berthas, decorate our school, and even create custom school swag. Their creativity and pride in their work have grown tremendously.\r\nThank you again for your incredible support. Your gift has truly empowered my students and enriched our STEM learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1746720765029,"projectUrl":"project/big-bertha-can-clean-the-world/9240182/","projectTitle":"Big Bertha Can Clean the World!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Abrams-Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9992968_orig.png?crop=224,224,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744049661455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9992968"},{"teacherId":5041724,"projectId":9102598,"letterContent":"I have had such a wonderful experience with your support. It takes all of us for students to succeed and you have been the ultimate part of that success. \r\n\r\nAs part of a district that is struggling financially, in order to meet the needs of my students, I have to spend my own money or look for support outside. The first thing we did was create a list of all the potential experiments we could include in our escape room. Students got to choose what they would specialize in and take over. As seniors, I've given them a lot of license as to how to structure these activities. \r\n\r\nWe finally settled on creating three separate stories, a \"Rated G\" version, a \"Rated PG-13\" version, and a \"Rated R\" version. Microscopes and fingerprinting made their way into every storyline, but this way we could offer a murder mystery appropriate for the wide variety of attendees at Rock your World with STEAM. It also allowed us to divert the traffic that tends to come in waves at this event into three different pathways. Students that wanted to create the most difficult puzzles worked in the Rated R storyline, and students who were more intersted in working with small children were focused on making their story fun and introducing kids to the lab materials. For instance, the suspects in the Rated G murder mystery were Harley Quinn, Gru, Hans (from Frozen), and Ursula. Meanwhile, the Rated R storyline featured all actual criminals as the suspects, a blood splatter anaylsis, and cipher. \r\n\r\nThank you all for your support. The first thing we did was analyze some \"Forensics Slides\" I'd found on Amazon. The rollercoaster of emotions was real, first excitement, then frustration, and ending with triumph! \r\nYou see, we'd tried to do some microscopy earlier in the year (which led to us writing this Donors Choose). Each of the microscopes we got working had its own \"tricks\" to make it work, or keep it working. And there were 3 different types, so once a student figured out to get one to work, the skills weren't always transferable to other microscopes. When the new microscopes came, the focus knobs worked differently than all 3 of our current \"surviving\" microscopes, and it really confused them. Once they got the hang of the embedded fine and course focus knobs, they were stoked. The new ones were actually much easier to use, and we got to have a little talk about how difficult it can be to unlearn something once we've learned it. So of course I had to bring up bad habits like vaping:-). \r\nAnyway, students were excited to utilize the new microscopes in their 3rd quarter project, composing \"escape room\" stories that participants solved using forensic techniques. We ended up writing three separate storylines, and microscopes were featured in all three! One was a fiber comparison, another was a hair comparison, but my personal favorite was a glitter comparison. Students prepared 5 slides, one for each suspect, and one slide that was from the crime scene (that matched one of the suspects). It came together really well, and we had kids from all over Cleveland try out our Escape Rooms at the annual Rock Your World with STEAM event held at the Great Lakes Science Center. \r\nThank you all for your support.
