What started as a simple project asking for word-to-word dictionaries has turned into much more. \r\n\r\nThe boy who just arrived from Mexico is now able to write more words in English simply because he can find the Spanish one first. The girl who was born in the USA, but is surrounded by Spanish at home is able to bridge the gap between home and school language better. Through your generous donations and kind words, my students and I are able to get all the materials we need to make strides in our English skills and accessing the academic content. The dry erase board has us a bigger work space for ideas and interactive work. Plus the fact that it stands above the table, instead of on it, allows all the students to see no matter where they are seated!\r\n\r\nOne of the first things that happened after I put the board together is one of my students decided to hold a lesson after school all about reptiles! It was hilarious to watch him transform into teacher mode and school us adults. (I'm sad that I forgot pictures!) The privacy screens have allowed them to focus on their own work without worrying about how far others are or how far behind they might be.\r\n\r\nTruly it has made assignments and testing easier because they aren't worried about everyone else and they aren't bending down at weird angles to get things done. They were so excited to see the red holders and thought they were super cool! The students were thrilled to open the boxes and place the new books in our bookshelf. These books give the students the opportunity to learn the alphabet through the use of literature and by reading about their favorite characters as they introduce the alphabet. \r\n These new texts introduced the alphabet letters and sounds through popular characters such as Pinkalicious and Charlie Brown. Many of the books were read to the class as I introduced the letters of the alphabet. Reading in my classroom is fun! The students work in pairs and read to each other and discuss the books. All of the students love the new books, especially the ESL learners.
