When the children first saw the new dolls and outfits, they were immediately excited. They crowded the dramatic play area and could not wait to hold the babies, wrap them in the clothes, and begin caring for them. Many of the children began talking about how they help take care of babies or younger siblings at home, which led to some wonderful conversations and connections.\r\n\r\nA group of students decided to turn our dramatic play area into a \"baby care center.\" They worked together to dress the dolls, rock them to sleep, and make sure each baby had what it needed. The children helped each other with buttons and snaps and talked about feeding the babies, putting them down for naps, changing diapers, and making sure they were comfortable. It was a great opportunity for them to practice cooperation, communication, and caring for others.\r\n\r\nWe will continue using the dolls as part of our lessons about families, feelings, and how people care for one another. You could hear the excited gasps and giggles as they explored the textures, scooped and poured, and discovered hidden objects.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the sensory bins daily to support a variety of skills: fine motor development, language building, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
