These types of shows greatly strengthen our school culture as well allow kids to experience Project Based, 21st Century Learning. While many people use technology at home, in our classroom it is a critical tool for personalized learning. With the addition of headphones, students are now able to fully engage with digital lessons, videos, and interactive activities without distractions. This has been especially important for language learners and students who benefit from hearing content multiple times at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been the ability to \"own\" their learning experience. When they put on their headphones, they are able to focus, block out noise, and truly immerse themselves in what they are learning. Whether they are listening to historical narratives, participating in online simulations, or using text-to-speech supports, the headphones have made learning feel more independent and engaging.\r\n\r\nSome of our students who struggle with focus or are easily overwhelmed by noise have especially benefited from this technology. I've seen students who typically have difficulty staying on task become more confident and productive when using headphones. Additionally, our English Language Learners have been able to replay instructions and content as needed, giving them greater access and understanding.\r\n\r\nThis project has helped ensure that all students—not just some—can fully participate in technology-based learning. We took time to talk about how the sensory tools are meant to help support focus and learning, and the students quickly understood how they could use them responsibly. Track and Field has been one of my favorite sports since high school. It taught me a lot, not just about my teammates and myself, but rather how to push myself, to motivate others, and to work individually harder to strengthen the team.\r\n\tThe purpose of this project was to obtain tools that would invite students to try something new. This year, many school districts were put in a tough space when President Trump wanted to restrict DEI. Our district superintendent made the decision not to sign that document, which meant that part of the budget would be diminished; cuts were made across the board, and that meant even for athletics.\r\n\tThis year, I stepped out of my comfort zone to coach. In the winter, I assisted both boys' and girls' junior high school basketball. This was very demanding; 4 days a week practices and several games each week from November through February. Then I decided to have a go with Track and Field in the spring. I knew going in that I would like to be able to give as many students a way to express themselves. When asking students around the building what they thought track and field was, many would roll their eyes and say something about running...which honestly really made me grind my teeth. I asked many to come out and try the sport because it wasn't all running laps around the building, or sprints in the gym; there are opportunities to jump over hurdles and bars and into sandpits, and even throw shotputs, discuses, and even a javelin (foam of course). All of these events test your physical strength and agility, but also your mental strength; how one motivates themselves and continues to push through, even at the toughest time.\r\n\tI had a few students show up and try for the first couple weeks of the season; unfortunately, due to lack of registration our season ended rather abruptly. But on the positive side those students did try out the new items - shotput, discus, javelin, and starting blocks; and they loved getting to learn how to use them. And for these materials, I am again, very grateful. \r\n\tThese few students hopefully learned a new skill physically, but also ventured out of their own comfort zones to attempt a new activity on their own, for which you made possible. I hope to encourage more students to try track and field again in the future, because I know what an impact it had on me growing up.
