These nonfiction texts introduce important early literacy skills such as identifying main ideas, learning new vocabulary, using text features like photographs and headings, and understanding how informational texts work. Students are also building background knowledge in science and social studies while practicing listening, speaking, and comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and engaging. During whole-group lessons, we read the magazines together, study real-life photographs, and discuss key facts using kid-friendly language. Students ask questions, make observations, and connect what they are learning to their own experiences. The magazines are also used in small groups and learning centers, where students revisit pages, talk about pictures, and practice retelling information in their own words.\r\n\r\nMany of my students, especially those who learn best visually or struggle with traditional storybooks, are especially enjoying Let's Find Out. The bright images, simple text, and real-world topics help capture their attention and build confidence. Students feel proud to share new facts they've learned, and their curiosity continues even after the lesson ends. Because of our donors' generosity, my students are developing a love for learning and a strong foundation in nonfiction reading from an early age.","fullyFundedDate":1763320653439,"projectUrl":"project/help-me-give-my-students-scholastic-maga/9665748/","projectTitle":"Help Me Give My Students Scholastic Magazines to Spark Curiosity","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wheeler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10233399_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756562332987","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10233399"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_105107","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":9,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":64,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"44.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":77.8,"schoolId":105107,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Canton College Preparatory School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Canton College Preparatory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/-county-run-/canton-college-preparatory-school/105107"}
