Your generosity has truly made a meaningful difference in my 6th-grade math classroom here in Winston-Salem.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students now have access to high-quality math tools—dry erase boards, coordinate grid maps, long division practice boards, graph paper, headphones, and sturdy pencils—that allow them to see and touch the math they are learning. These materials have transformed the way my students participate in lessons and how they build confidence in their abilities.\r\n\r\nHow is the technology helping students learn?\r\nThe wired headphones have been one of the most impactful resources. Many of my students work through digital math stations or replay instructional videos at their own pace. With the headphones, they can focus without distraction, listen closely to modeled steps, and revisit explanations whenever they need to. This simple technology is helping students take ownership of their learning and develop independence—something that isn't always visible to those outside the classroom, but makes an enormous difference day to day.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the new resources?\r\nStudents are absolutely energized by the hands-on materials. The Write-and-Wipe coordinate maps and long division dry erase boards have become the class favorites. Instead of feeling intimidated by graphing or multi-step division, students now enjoy practicing because they can erase mistakes quickly and keep trying. The graph paper and fresh pencils make their work feel clean and organized—small details that boost pride in their math thinking.\r\n\r\nOne student even said, \"It's like we get to do real mathematician work!\" Moments like that remind me why these tools are so powerful.\r\n\r\nAre there particular students who have especially warmed to the new tools?\r\nYes—several of my struggling learners have shown remarkable growth. One student who typically shuts down during division lessons has become one of the first to grab a long-division dry erase board. The wipeable format makes the work feel safe and approachable, and he now volunteers to explain his thinking to the class.\r\n\r\nAnother student who often doodles instead of completing assignments is suddenly more engaged, especially with the coordinate plane resources. She loves plotting points and graphing shapes, and she stays focused much longer when she has the write-and-wipe map in her hands.\r\n\r\nThese small but powerful changes are possible because your donation bridged the gap between what students needed and what we had.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has not only supported learning—it has sparked confidence, curiosity, and joy in math. As a Filipino educator committed to making math accessible and meaningful for all students, I cannot thank you enough for helping create a classroom where each child feels equipped to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1758647268619,"projectUrl":"project/quality-math-resources-and-manipulatives/9705864/","projectTitle":"Quality Math Resources and Manipulatives for Deeper Student Understanding","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mañalac","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9465121_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707967044376","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9465121"},{"teacherId":9465121,"projectId":9276091,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for your generous support of our 6th Grade Math classroom. They were thrilled to know that kind donors, including familiar faces from a TV series they enjoy, contributed to their learning environment. This generosity has inspired a strong sense of gratitude and excitement in our classroom.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am confident these new resources will enrich our lessons and projects. More importantly, I believe the students will carry with them the valuable lesson of appreciating blessings and opportunities. My students were thrilled when the new supplies arrived—there were gasps of excitement as we unpacked the colorful markers, crayons, and brand-new composition books. Immediately, students began brainstorming ways they could use the materials in our upcoming science unit. One student exclaimed, \"Now our notebooks can actually show how fun science is!\" These resources have transformed our classroom into a more vibrant and creative space where every student feels empowered to express their ideas.\r\n\r\nWe recently began a unit on Earth Systems, and thanks to your donations, students were able to dive into a hands-on group project creating interactive anchor charts that focused on important vocabulary for the rock cycle. The composition books have become a hub for all their thinking—from daily warm-ups to detailed diagrams and reflections on their experiments. One memorable moment was watching a group of students huddled around a chart, using the new markers to carefully sketch and label each part of a local ecosystem. Their pride in their work was so evident, and it's clear that these supplies have made learning more accessible and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll be using these tools to support student-led investigations as part of our IB curriculum. Our next project involves exploring how human activities impact the environment, and students will use their notebooks to track observations, create visual models, and share their findings. Because of your generosity, they have the tools they need to take ownership of their learning and to collaborate meaningfully with one another. Because of you, my 6th-grade mathematicians in Winston-Salem now have the tools they need to engage more deeply and confidently with math every day.\r\n\r\nHow are you and your students using the new resources?\r\nWe've been using the new supplies during interactive math rotations and small group instruction. The dry erase markers, long division boards, and coordinate grid maps have been especially helpful during our current unit on coordinate planes and multi-digit division. One of my favorite classroom moments was watching students work in pairs using the Write and Wipe Coordinate Maps to graph and identify points—it turned into a lively game of \"Math Battleship\" that got everyone involved and excited to participate!\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nTheir eyes lit up! Some even cheered when I handed them their own pre-sharpened pencils and dry erase markers. For many of them, this was the first time they had their own set of clean, organized math tools. One student exclaimed, \"We get to use real graph paper?!\" It may seem small, but these moments made a huge impact on their motivation and pride in their work.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\nRight now, we're diving deeper into graphing on the coordinate plane and applying long division to real-world word problems. Thanks to the new materials, students are working more independently and collaborating with each other using the headphones for instructional videos and digital math stations. Up next, we'll be creating our own coordinate plane \"treasure maps\" and using long division dry erase boards to solve math mysteries hidden in the maps!\r\n\r\nAs a Filipino educator, it's my mission to make math meaningful and empowering. One specific project we worked on was a \"Coping Skills Poster\" that students created after using the bins. Each student selected a coping tool from their grade-level bin, such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, or positive affirmations, and then illustrated and described how they use that tool when they're feeling anxious, upset, or stressed. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were excited and curious. The bins are filled with sensory toys, stress-relief items, calming visual aids, and mood trackers, which caught their attention right away. Many students immediately began exploring the items, and they were eager to discuss how they could use each one to handle tough emotions. Some even took it a step further by sharing personal strategies and how the tools could help their classmates.\r\n\r\nFor the next steps in this lesson, my students are working on creating a \"Classroom Coping Skills Chart\" that we can hang up in our room.
