Our situation is a little more unusual & difficult this year than it has been, previously. We are a Title 1 school, which always \"needs\" more based on socio-economic need, but our county leadership has put us into a very uncomfortable position recently by spending millions of dollars that they didn't have. The repercussions of this hurts everywhere & everyone, but ultimately comes down to hurting students. \r\n\r\nWhere our system has the expectation of providing devices for each student to use, this year we have not gotten replacements for the Chromebooks like we have in the past. Freshmen have had to inherit the used-up & less-than-functioning devices that seniors have turned in. In addition to this sad state, when new students come in, many times they get the bottom of the barrel or nothing at all. \r\n\r\nMy students are arriving from other countries without so much as English to support them. When they get here & cannot even have a device with which they can participate, translate, or understand what is going on with all of the digital expectations, these new Chromebooks are filling a very important gap. This device equips them with the information, tools, & accessibility they need to begin a successful academic career in our school. \r\n\r\nThe Chromebooks you gave to my class, where they cannot be given to the students outside of my classroom, facilitate connection to the larger spectrum of their courses & needs, getting them started on a good foot. After whatever time is needed to get them their own device, they are comfortable & connected, at that point, with how things work. They also serve as a lifeline to help other students whose Chromebooks are not working or having issues of some sort. \r\n\r\nMy students are working hard to swim in these shark-infested waters & these lovely devices are helping them to at least float & not drown. Things are hard enough without the increased weight of feeling isolated & without any bridge to support. You have enabled a bridge to be built & made my students, in turn, feel like they are cared for, & thus, matter.","fullyFundedDate":1758805190362,"projectUrl":"project/tightened-belt-most-heartfelt/9539984/","projectTitle":"Tightened Belt, Most Heartfelt","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Neff","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3580523_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1463166900075","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3580523"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1510","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1078,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":38,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":1510,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Forsyth High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Forsyth High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/winston-salem-forsyth-county-schools/north-forsyth-high-school/1510"}
