Each issue provides fun, informative articles including a math component. Middle school students often wonder why they have to learn math, so making connections between what we are working on in class to a real life scenario that includes specific math examples and practice problems truly helps engage them.\r\n\r\nStudents are also frequently asked to interpret graphs or pictograms. These can be found in social studies, science, and also ELA content. Each month the Scholastic Math Magazine features a topic and a selection of graphs about it. What's cool about these pages is that the categories are relevant and student centered, such as music, sports, and even Halloween candy. We hold small group and whole class discussions about the information. One of the favorites was the 'Do You Love Emojis' issue.
