I enjoy introducing my young students to some of the things that were going on not just in the South but the rest of the country as well. Our previous headphones had fallen apart after multiple years of use and I inherited them from the previous teacher when I started 3 years ago. They enjoy having headphones that actually work. We have a limited number of headphones in the school, but most are reserved for testing only. Having a classroom set makes activities run smoothly. \r\n\r\nOur state mandated and district exams are not translated for our multi-language learners. Science exams consist of reading various passages. Therefore, the headphones allow students to utilize the read aloud option on their tests. Students are able to be tested on their content knowledge rather than their reading ability. Outside of our multi-language learners, students struggle with the task of reading. Headphones in the classroom help bridge that learning gap. This creates a more fair assessment and can increase their confidence in test taking. Edpuzzle is an educational platform for students to watch videos and answer questions. My multi-language students prefer this activity and are now able to watch the videos with the headphones.","fullyFundedDate":1733363528972,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-to-break-the-language-barrier/8611854/","projectTitle":"Headphones to Break the Language Barrier","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nichols","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9560565_orig.jpg?crop=1600,1600,x200,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723249095471","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-klnichols"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97357","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":674,"numTeachers":59,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":37,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.7,"schoolId":97357,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Flat Rock Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Flat Rock Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/winston-salem-forsyth-county-schools/flat-rock-middle-school/97357"}
