This gave them a clear idea of how the resources will be used and how they can make the most of this experience.\r\n\r\nHow did students react?\r\nWhen our 5th graders helped unpack the materials, the excitement was immediate! Several asked if they could use the items right away, while others wanted to put their names on them or even take them home over the weekend. Their enthusiasm showed just how much these resources mean to them.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps?\r\nThe next phase will be teaching students how to properly use the materials. This will lead into a research project, where students will explore the first steps they can take and experiment with different styles of jumps. It's the beginning of a journey where they'll not only build skills but also learn how to set goals, work together, and push their own limits.\r\n\r\nYour support has already sparked curiosity, joy, and motivation in our classroom. Thank you for making this possible and for giving my students such an inspiring start.","fullyFundedDate":1755372634368,"projectUrl":"project/leap-learn-active-bodies-active-mind/9536280/","projectTitle":"Leap & Learn: Active Bodies, Active Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. MEDINA","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9251762_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715427374687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9251762"},{"teacherId":8276207,"projectId":8907200,"letterContent":"We want to send a sincere THANK YOU for supporting our learning by purchasing sets of the book, Zane and the Hurricane.\r\n\r\nThe 5th grade classes at Wake Forest istem Magnet Elementary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, are working on a semester long PBL (project based learning) Unit with Zane and the Hurricane as one of our major anchor texts. We used the book as an entry point to the unit and a way to have students develop empathy for victims of natural disasters in order to pave the way for our science learning of weather systems and our ELA study of natural disasters. The book provided an awareness of other issues related to natural disasters such as race relations, issues of poverty, and inequity in survival rates among impoverished and financially secure populations. Having this common foundation of empathy and understanding will benefit all students as we continue our learning throughout the semester. Please see the following slides to check out what we have completed so far in our unit. We have been able to connect the book to grade level standards in ELA, Social Studies, and Science so far.
