Because of your donation, our kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade students have had exciting opportunities to explore coding, problem-solving, and critical thinking in ways that are both engaging and developmentally appropriate.\r\nMany people use technology at home for entertainment or communication, but in our school library, technology becomes a tool for learning. The Sphero Indi robots help students develop computational thinking skills by teaching them how to create sequences, identify patterns, make predictions, and solve problems. As students guide their robots through color-coded paths and challenges, they learn the same foundational concepts that are used in computer programming, all while building perseverance and collaboration skills.\r\nWhat excites students most about the Indi robots is that they can immediately see the results of their thinking. When they place color tiles to create a path, the robot responds by moving, turning, stopping, or changing direction. Students love experimenting, testing their ideas, and making adjustments when something doesn't work as planned. The hands-on nature of the robots makes learning feel like play while reinforcing important STEM concepts.\r\nOur kindergarten students have especially enjoyed exploring cause and effect. They are fascinated by how different colors tell the robot what to do and eagerly work together to create simple routes and challenges.\r\nFirst-grade students have embraced the problem-solving aspect of the robots. They enjoy predicting what will happen, testing their ideas, and working through challenges when the robot doesn't follow the path they expected.\r\nSecond-grade students have quickly taken their learning to the next level by designing more complex courses and collaborating with classmates to create coding challenges. They have shown tremendous creativity and confidence as they experiment with different solutions and explain their thinking to others.\r\nThe Sphero Indi robots have sparked curiosity, creativity, and excitement for learning. Your support has provided our students with meaningful opportunities to develop future-ready skills while experiencing the joy of discovery. The excitement in our library is electric for these new materials. Students are excited that they are going to get to create in 3D—and not just with paper and pencil. Your generosity has brought a sense of wonder and possibility into our learning space that will truly transform how students think about design, engineering, and creativity.\r\n\r\nWe will launch makerspace challenges using the 3D Doodler pens. Students will work in teams to brainstorm ideas, sketch blueprints, and bring their visions to life—layer by layer—with the pens. It will be incredible to see students engaged, working through trial and error, encouraging one another, and celebrating each small success. For many students, this hands-on opportunity will help them make connections to STEM concepts in a way that felt meaningful and fun.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're integrating the 3D pens into upcoming lessons that coincide with our library read alouds. Students will soon design characters or key objects from books they're reading—bringing literacy to life in a new and tangible way. The flexible seating cushions have quickly become a favorite among the students—they love choosing their own spots around the room to work, which helps them focus and take ownership of their learning. The cushions also serve as a positive incentive; students strive to earn the chance to use them during independent or group work time, creating an atmosphere of motivation and engagement.\r\n\r\nThe building items you helped provide have been an incredible addition, sparking creativity and encouraging purposeful, screen-free play. Students are collaborating, problem-solving, and using their imaginations in ways that support both their social and cognitive development. Whether students are reading, reflecting, or quietly recharging, the couch offers a cozy, comfortable space that truly enhances our learning environment.
