We have also put them into use right away, almost as soon as they were opened. For the past 2 weeks, students in 2nd and 3rd grades have been participating in lessons in which they learn to read, speak, sing, and compose rhythms with quarter notes, paired eighth notes and quarter rests. Students worked within partner groups to compose a rhythm using rhythm manipulatives. The step bells were an exciting next step in their compositions, giving them a way to visualize the melody they wanted to accompany their rhythms.\r\n\r\nMy students were in awe when they were first introduced to the step bells. Elementary aged students are very visual and tactile learners. Using step bells in the music classroom helps make the concepts of high and low pitch and melodic movement more concrete to them. They loved that they look like a mini staircase!\r\n\r\nFor future lessons, I will use the step bells with kindergarten and first grade students to accompany stories that reinforce the concept of melodic movement, ascending and descending, and high/low pitch. The step bells have been a valuable addition to my classroom. My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1752586501242,"projectUrl":"project/a-journey-of-a-thousand-melodies-starts/9309580/","projectTitle":"A Journey of a Thousand Melodies Starts with Eight Steps","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. King","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2113061_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1512072538514","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ameyking"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3522","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":311,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":64.7,"schoolId":3522,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about White Plains Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"White Plains Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/surry-county-school-district/white-plains-elementary-school/3522"}
