They are already captivated.\r\n To demonstrate the site, I chose two Force and Motion activities. In the \"Gravity Pitch\" Gizmo, we experimented with the forward velocity of a throw vs. the downward pull of gravity, with added options to change from Earth to Mars, Venus, or a planet of our own design. The other Gizmo put us on the golf range with variables including velocity, angle, elevation, and working with or without air resistance. \r\n One of my favorite aspects of having students use Gizmos is that it reminds them that failing is a starting point in Science, not an outcome. Instead of losing heart when the ball doesn't make a complete orbit or the golf ball misses the hole, students buckle down and start trouble-shooting. What didn't work? Why? How can I do it differently? They focus on the process, analysis and reflection, and looking for ways to improve rather than settling for \"Did I get it right or wrong?\"\r\n Thank you for your generosity and the learning opportunities you have helped provide to my students!","fullyFundedDate":1739706549821,"projectUrl":"project/simulations-help-us-see-science-in-actio/9032319/","projectTitle":"Simulations Help Us See Science in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thompson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2123830_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1449056740492","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/betsy-thompson"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3453","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":609,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":52,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":19,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"21.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.3,"schoolId":3453,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Johnson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Johnson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/scotland-county-schools/i-e-johnson-elementary-school/3453"}
