From the moment the magazines arrived, student engagement increased noticeably. The high-interest texts, paired with relevant topics and compelling visuals, immediately drew students in and motivated them to read closely. Students who were once hesitant readers became eager participants, excited to explore each new issue. The variety of genres and perspectives sparked curiosity and encouraged students to think beyond the surface of the text, supporting higher-order thinking through analysis, discussion, and thoughtful questioning.\r\n\r\nStoryworks also transformed the way students collaborated and communicated about reading. Through partner work, small-group discussions, and whole-class debates, students learned how to share ideas respectfully, support their thinking with text evidence, and build on one another's perspectives. These conversations strengthened comprehension and allowed students to deepen their understanding of complex ideas. Repeated readings and performance-based activities improved fluency, helping students read with greater accuracy, expression, and confidence.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, Scholastic Storyworks helped foster a genuine joy for reading in our classroom. Students looked forward to reading time and took pride in discussing and reflecting on what they learned. The combination of engaging content, purposeful instruction, and collaborative learning created a positive reading culture where students felt successful and excited to grow as readers. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity, which made these meaningful learning experiences possible and helped nurture lifelong readers.","fullyFundedDate":1762951806216,"projectUrl":"project/lit-up-by-literacy-storyworks-in-action/9786329/","projectTitle":"Lit Up by Literacy: Storyworks in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Keegan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2373372_orig.jpg?crop=2721,2721,x0,y226&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759411768451","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2373372"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3141","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":340,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":46,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":79.1,"schoolId":3141,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Forest Hills Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Forest Hills Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/new-hanover-county-school-district/forest-hills-elementary-school/3141"}
