My students' faces lit up, and they actually cheered when they saw all of the different seating options. We spent our first week rotating through the different choices so that every student had a chance to try everything. It was so fun to watch them discover their favorites—because, just as I expected, they all have different preferences!\r\n\r\nNow that everyone has had the opportunity to try the different options, students can choose the flexible seating that works best for them and decide when they need it throughout the day. I am especially noticing a difference with some of my students who are naturally more \"wiggly.\" They are able to move and still stay focused on their work, which is helping them remain engaged during learning activities. I love seeing them begin to recognize what helps them learn best and make those choices independently.\r\n\r\nOur next step is continuing to use these choices throughout our daily reading, writing, math, and small-group activities. What started with a room full of excited first graders is becoming a regular part of our classroom routine.
