Students are learning how to identify central ideas, evaluate evidence, and engage in meaningful discussions that deepen their understanding of civic responsibility.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now a dynamic, collaborative experience. Students read independently, annotate their books, work in partners, and participate in Socratic discussions where they practice expressing their ideas with confidence. With the help of your donation, reading time has transformed into an engaging part of our day where students feel empowered to explore big ideas and ask important questions.\r\n\r\nSome students who rarely engaged with reading before are now fully invested. One student who typically avoids discussions now raises his hand eagerly to share insights about leadership and fairness. It has been an amazing journey for this leadership retreat. Part of what has made it so amazing has been the secret pals that we do every year. The whole premise is that students get assigned a secret pal at the beginning of the weekend and reveal themselves at the end of the weekend. Throughout the weekend they make some really cool gifts for their secret pals and make them feel special by crafting them homemade goodies. Your contributions are the sole factor in making this happen. It is expensive to lead a retreat like this every year and every year I have to pinch pennies to make this retreat happen. I made it to where the students only have to pay $50 to attend so that I can open the retreat up to all the students, no matter their financial situation. By getting these donorschoose projects funded that is one less material I have to worry about for the retreat weekend and can focus on keeping the cost down for participants.
