Students now use the carpet for partner reading, the egg chairs as cozy independent reading nooks, the wobble stools during small-group discussions, and the bean bag chair as a special \"featured reader\" spot during read-aloud time. One of my favorite moments happened during a recent literature circle project. Students were reading a class novel and rotated through discussion roles while seated in the new space. The comfort and flexibility of the seating helped them stay engaged longer, and I noticed richer conversations and more thoughtful responses than ever before.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement. There were gasps, huge smiles, and so many \"Can we sit there today?!\" questions. They immediately gravitated toward the egg chairs and bean bag, eager to try them out. What stood out most was how quickly they treated the space with care and pride. They understood that this was something special that had been gifted to them, and they were determined to use it responsibly.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students are beginning a research and presentation project connected to our current reading unit. They will be exploring themes from our texts and creating small group presentations to share their findings. The new reading area will serve as our collaboration hub—where students brainstorm ideas, rehearse presentations, and reflect on their learning. Thanks to this generous contribution, our classroom is not only more comfortable, but it has become a space that truly fosters creativity, confidence, and a love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1765870885993,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-spaces-for-readers/9927347/","projectTitle":"Cozy Spaces for Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Norman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10362236_orig.jpg?crop=907,907,x0,y3&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764954746845","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10362236"},{"teacherId":10385883,"projectId":9961701,"letterContent":"First off, I cannot find the words to thank you for taking the time to donate to my classroom of incredible 5th graders. When so much funding is being pulled out of classrooms, teachers are finding it harder and harder to cover supplies in order for students to reach their true potential. I am extremely grateful for folks like you who still support our public schools. \r\nWhen the students entered the classroom and saw boxes of supplies stacked up on a table, their curiosity peaked. They helped unbox everything and immediately grabbed up a pair of noise canceling headphones and a brand new highlighter (they were able to pick the color of their choice). Since opening the supplies, the students have been using the items nonstop in the classroom. \r\nOne of the most important skills I teach in the classroom is organization and creating a routine around each day. Many of the supplies may be small, such as the staples and binder clips, but they have helped tremendously with these skills so students can keep track of their writing papers, find pages in their journals, and even clip together magazine cut outs for their ecosystem projects. \r\nEvery single thing donated will be used all across the curriculum that I teach, from mathematics to reading to managing individual learning needs.
