We have already begun to use these instruments to work on a note and song learning unit which allows these students to feel like true musicians in their elementary music class. With so little resources and no money to buy resources, it is often difficult for students to feel fully engaged in music making, true tonal note making, but with these ukuleles, my students have already begun to create their own music. \r\n\r\nMy students' reactions to the ukes was priceless when they first saw and got to hold them. First it was awe. Awe at the shiny new wood, the perfectly in tune strings (which was no walk in the park for me to tune ha ha). Next, it was eyes shining at learning to strum a pattern, learning to play their first chords. Last, it was complete gratitude and satisfaction that someone would think enough of them to be willing to buy them brand new instruments. Following each lesson, students keep asking, \"ARE WE DOING THIS AGAIN NEXT WEEK?\" That should tell you everything about the impact. They are eager and ready to come back each week hoping to play the beautiful instruments you gifted them. \r\n\r\nIn the future, I would love to find the students who are serious about learning the ukulele to its fullest extent, and create a sort of ukulele chorus that can eventually do school performances. This would allow them to share their talents with their friends and family bringing the impact of these instruments to a wider group of people.\r\n\r\nLastly, I would again like to thank you. Thank you for giving me the chance to change the course of our music education here. Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to find a new passion and be musicians to the fullest. Thank you for caring enough about these students that you would be willing to give of your hard earned dollars to enrich their lives. Just, thank you from the bottom of my heart and hundreds of other little hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1724537703630,"projectUrl":"project/ukuleles-for-title-1-aspiring-musicians/8686585/","projectTitle":"Ukuleles for Title 1 Aspiring Musicians","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lewis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9212438"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2820","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":470,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":47,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":27,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":2820,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northwood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northwood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/guilford-county-schools/northwood-elementary-school/2820"}
