We are already making great use of the new resources, especially the Expanding Expressions Tool, and it has had an immediate impact in our classroom. We introduced the tool during small-group language lessons to help students organize their thoughts and expand their oral and written responses. One meaningful moment was watching students use the visual prompts to describe objects and experiences with much more detail than before. Instead of giving one-word answers, they were excited to share complete, well-organized descriptions.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were eager to explore them. They loved the bright visuals and were curious about how each section helped them remember what to say next. The tool made language feel approachable and fun, and students quickly gained confidence knowing they had a clear structure to guide their thinking.\r\n\r\nThanks to our donors, students now have access to a resource that supports their growth as communicators. Our next steps include using the Expanding Expressions Tool during reading and writing lessons. Students will apply it to retell stories, describe characters, and write detailed paragraphs. We are excited to continue building strong vocabulary, sentence structure, and confidence as students use this tool across subjects.","fullyFundedDate":1756212003778,"projectUrl":"project/ready-to-bring-writing-front-and-center/9395667/","projectTitle":"Ready to Bring Writing Front and Center With EET!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mulligan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6494141_orig.jpg?crop=965,965,x72,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1561131901625","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6494141"},{"teacherId":6494141,"projectId":9395743,"letterContent":"The new books introduce important reading skills while also helping students grow as thoughtful, empathetic learners. Through these texts, students are practicing key literacy skills such as making predictions, identifying main ideas, asking and answering questions, and discussing characters' feelings and motivations. Many of the books also support vocabulary development and comprehension by exposing students to rich language and meaningful, real-world topics.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and joyful. Students participate in read-alouds, partner reading, and small-group discussions where they are encouraged to share their thinking, ask questions, and make personal connections. We spend time talking about the illustrations, the author's message, and how stories connect to our own lives. These conversations help students see reading as more than just decoding words—it's about understanding and connection.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially excited about the new books because they see themselves reflected in the stories. Others are enjoying learning about cultures, traditions, and experiences that may be different from their own. Discussing books that showcase every skin color and every heritage has had a powerful impact. Students are more engaged, more respectful, and more curious about one another. These books open the door for meaningful conversations about kindness, identity, and belonging, helping all students feel seen, valued, and included in our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1756090794679,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-show-every-face/9395743/","projectTitle":"Books That Show Every Face","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mulligan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6494141_orig.jpg?crop=965,965,x72,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1561131901625","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6494141"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3523","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":641,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":85.7,"schoolId":3523,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Elkin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Elkin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/elkin-city-school-district/elkin-elementary-school/3523"}
