One of the students was reading Hair Love and the young girl in the book had two ponytails in her hair like our student. It was beautiful to see her delight in seeing herself reflected! \r\n\r\nAnother of our students was reading the ABCs of Black History. He was encouraged to seeing the historical figures that looked like him and was focused on the pictures as we discussed the events and traditions prevalent in Black History, including the Diaspora, Mattthew Hinson, Juneteenth, Kwanzaa, the impact of our vote and more!\r\n\r\nOur class is a family has been a favorite amongst our students as we promote community amongst our students in us sharing, helping, keeping our classroom environment clean, etc. We are looking forward to reading Fry Bread next month and modifying Kevin's fry bread recipe to make our own! And introducing all of the books in whole group learning at various times throughout the year! \r\n\r\nThe books in this project have been an invaluable addition to our classroom! The books have promoted literacy learning as we have introduced new vocabulary, promoted communication amongst peers and more! Thank you so much for making this project possible! The body parts book has given our students another visual to identify parts of the body, which supports them in their academic goals. Our students love vehicles, often building roads, tracks and bridges to drive cars, trains and airplanes on, over and across! This book gives students a layered learning experience to identify various vehicles, then incorporate learning in the blocks center (where our vehicles live). They love the colorful pictures in both books, often pointing the parts and objects when we say them or point to our own body part. \r\n\r\nThe First Little Readers books are amazing! We are currently reading through the books in Set A. They have helped our students identify people and objects on the pages, identify letters and letter sounds and communicate the actions taking place on the pages. Our little readers are enjoying themselves building their literacy skills!\r\n\r\nThank you for ensuring that our students have these books to support literacy learning throughout this school year and beyond! They students love them! It is such a blessing and so much fun to see the children engaging with the magazines and online resources!\r\n\r\nThe informational text increases student knowledge and helps with language development. The printed copies allow us to read and complete activities in school and the digital subscriptions not only offers the magazine in digital form, but supplemental resources, including activities, games, videos and past issues that support classroom lessons and school to home learning. Our students enjoy the brain break video because it gives them an opportunity to move their body in different ways and the freeze to breathe and relax!\r\n\r\nAll around, this is one of the best learning resources we use in our classroom (because of the layered resources) to enhance student learning and that provides a seamless transition from school to home! We set the books and alphabet stickers out for morning center. The students came over to prepare their books. A few of our students whose verbal skills are not as clear right now, clearly repeated the name of the pictures! The students strengthened their fine motor skills in peeling the stickers and placing them in their book! One of our students was able to independently trace the upper and lower case Aa! \r\n\r\nWe placed the self-portrait materials out for afternoon centers and a few helpers came over to help us unpack the box. The students eagerly picked out the materials they wanted to use and with help with the glue (as it was a bit challenging for them to squeeze out due to the thickness), they added clothes, a face, hair and other materials to reflect themselves. It was so much fun watching their face light up as they chose materials (especially the hair) and add them to their person! \r\n\r\nTheir curiosity and creativity shined through with the materials from both of these projects! My students use them every day to practice their early writing skills in an interactive and hands-on way. They especially enjoy being able to practice, erase, and try again without feeling afraid of making mistakes.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first received the wipe boards, they were so excited to have their own tools to practice with. Many of my students began this journey with little to no knowledge of how to write the alphabet. As they practiced tracing letters, forming letters on their own, and eventually putting letters together into words, I watched their confidence grow.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments has been seeing how far they have come. Students who once struggled to write individual letters are now able to write short sentences! Their progress has been a wonderful reminder of how important hands-on resources are for young learners.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building on these early writing skills. We will keep practicing letter formation, words, and sentence writing while encouraging students to express their own ideas through writing.
