Wilkins, we want to sincerely thank you for your generous donation through DonorsChoose. We are truly grateful for your support.\r\n\r\nHowever, there appears to have been a misunderstanding in fulfilling our request. We originally requested a Power Sliding Compound Miter Saw, but we have received only the saw blade. While we deeply appreciate this contribution, we currently do not have the saw to use the blade with.\r\n\r\nThe saw itself is critical to our program, as it will enable students to engage in hands-on training with construction framing using wood. This training is vital, considering the growing need to prepare younger workers to enter the construction workforce and replace an aging population.\r\n\r\nWe will be resubmitting our request for the saw, but in the meantime, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for your kindness and generosity in providing the saw blade. These new texts have already made a remarkable difference in how my students approach reading. Many of them are reconnecting with literature for the first time in years—thanks to stories that reflect their lives, cultures, and challenges. With these books, we're able to dive into lessons on theme, character development, author's purpose, and critical thinking, but more importantly, we're opening doors for students to feel seen, heard, and valued.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading has become a shared experience. Students read in small groups, annotate with curiosity, and have thoughtful discussions about the choices characters make—and how those choices mirror their own. One student, who once said he had \"never finished a book,\" recently asked to borrow a novel to read over the weekend. Another wrote her first-ever book reflection, connecting the story to her personal journey. These moments are small victories, but they're deeply meaningful.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a space where students feel safe to explore who they are and who they want to become. My students and I are already putting the new resources to use, and the difference is amazing. We've been able to clean and repair many of our most well-loved books so they're back in circulation instead of sitting on the sidelines. Students are so excited to see their favorite titles looking fresh and ready to be read again!\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was when a student noticed that a book she had been waiting on was back on the shelf, repaired and good as new. She held it up and said, \"Wow—it looks like it was just bought!\" Her excitement reminded me how much these small repairs mean to students who are eager to dive into stories.\r\n\r\nThe materials are also helping us keep the library more organized and inviting. Labels and bins make it easier for students to find what they're looking for, and the cleaner space has encouraged more students to come in, browse, and explore.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will be starting a classroom project where they create book recommendations and displays for their peers. Having our shelves neat and our books in good condition makes this project even more meaningful, because students can take pride in showcasing a collection that feels cared for and welcoming.\r\n\r\nYour gift has truly helped preserve the heart of our school—our library. As part of our ongoing project, I encouraged my students to use these items to create a more mindful and healthy daily routine. Many students struggle with maintaining focus and energy levels throughout the school day, especially in a high-pressure environment. By incorporating self-care routines, like taking a moment to apply calming shower gels or using skincare products designed to soothe the skin, we gave students a way to practice mindfulness and manage stress, both of which are essential for maintaining a balanced life while navigating academic pressures. \r\n\r\nOne particular moment stood out when one of my students, Sarah, who often struggled with anxiety before class, began using a lavender-infused shower gel that we had discussed as part of our lesson on the benefits of essential oils in skincare. The calming scent of lavender helped her feel more relaxed, allowing her to start the day on a calmer note. When she returned to class after her break, she shared with the class that using the gel had helped clear her mind and helped her focus better during our lesson. Her experience inspired others to experiment with similar products and routines, and the overall energy in the class shifted as students became more aware of the importance of self-care not only for physical health but for mental clarity as well. \r\n\r\nInitially, when the students saw the skincare products and laundry detergents on display, they were puzzled. Many didn't immediately see the connection between these daily-use items and their ability to improve focus or reduce stress during school hours. However, as we explored the science of how certain ingredients can calm the mind and body, their reactions shifted from confusion to curiosity and excitement. By explaining how the fragrances in shower gels or the soothing properties of moisturizers can activate specific senses, I saw them become more engaged in how small, everyday routines could have a powerful impact on their well-being and academic performance. Moving forward, the next steps for my students will involve understanding the deeper connection between self-care and classroom performance. They will be encouraged to incorporate self-care rituals into their routine, reflect on how it influences their concentration and emotional state, and share their findings with the class. The ultimate goal is to create a balanced, healthy classroom environment where students can prioritize both their mental and physical health, understanding how taking care of themselves leads to a more productive and positive learning experience.","fullyFundedDate":1742984902572,"projectUrl":"project/a-clean-start/9159919/","projectTitle":"A Clean Start","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2425923"},{"teacherId":9865549,"projectId":8992205,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our recent DonorsChoose project. Many of them shared how having these essentials made them feel more comfortable and confident at school. It was heartwarming to see their smiles and hear their expressions of gratitude.\r\n\r\nBecause of the overwhelming need, my next project will continue to focus on providing hygiene items for our students.
