The arrival of the new Lyons xylophones was a moment my students will never forget. Their faces lit up when they saw the instruments, and many immediately began asking, \"Can we play them today?!\" These xylophones have already transformed our lessons by allowing students to explore melody and harmony in ways we simply couldn't before.\r\n\r\nFrom Pre-K to 5th grade, students have been taking turns creating patterns, playing simple songs, and experimenting with ensemble work. One of my more reserved students, usually hesitant to participate, proudly played a pentatonic improvisation for the class, a beautiful reminder of how the right tools can unlock confidence. The xylophones make it possible for more students to actively engage in music-making rather than waiting for a turn, which has created a more inclusive and collaborative learning environment.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these instruments will play a major role in our upcoming units on composition, steady beat, and group performance. Your support has given my students the chance to learn through hands-on exploration, creativity, and teamwork. Thank you for helping us build a classroom where every child can experience the joy of making music.","fullyFundedDate":1749138135421,"projectUrl":"project/striking-the-right-note-xylophones-for/9145660/","projectTitle":"Striking the Right Note: Xylophones for Young Musicians!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Castillo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9935297"},{"teacherId":9935297,"projectId":9144251,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our band room feels more energized than ever. The new mouthpieces and Essential Elements method books have already transformed the way my students approach music-making. Instead of struggling with worn-out or shared equipment, each player now has a reliable mouthpiece that allows them to produce a clearer, more confident sound. The moment they opened the boxes, you could see a \"wow\" in their eyes, many couldn't wait to try out their \"new gear\" right away!\r\n\r\nWe put the materials to use immediately during our warm-ups and first full-band rehearsal with the new books. Students flipped eagerly through the pages, pointing out songs they hoped to master and challenging themselves to reach new benchmarks. Having their own tools has given them a sense of pride and belonging.\r\n\r\nWith these resources in hand, our next steps include preparing for our winter performance and beginning small-group sectional work using the structured lessons in the method books. Your support didn't just supply materials, you helped create an environment where students feel prepared, motivated, and excited to grow as musicians. Thank you for investing in their success and for giving them the chance to truly flourish.","fullyFundedDate":1750428644114,"projectUrl":"project/set-up-for-success-mouthpieces-music/9144251/","projectTitle":"Set Up for Success: Mouthpieces & Music Books for Band!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Castillo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9935297"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2480","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":275,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":2480,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Silk Hope Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Silk Hope Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/chatham-county-school-district/silk-hope-elementary-school/2480"}
