These devices act as a \"virtual assistant\" by allowing students to scan and receive immediate assistance with unfamiliar words or text, which facilitates comprehension and learning. This support allows our teachers to focus more on building relationships and fostering connections with students, rather than solely on language translation or clarification. The use of scanning pens demonstrates respect for cultural differences and helps ensure that language barriers do not hinder educational achievement in our classrooms.\r\n\r\nBy using tools like the scanning pens, teachers were able to dedicate more time to building meaningful relationships with our multilingual students, which can lead to a more supportive and understanding classroom environment. This also improved the teacher and student relationship, which can help address behavioral issues, as students may feel more valued and understood, leading to increased engagement and better conduct. Therefore, strengthening teacher-student relationships through such initiatives may contribute to reduced behavioral problems and a more conducive learning environment. Our students struggle with several issues, so having a room where they can come to grab a snack and sit comfortably in a chair does wonders for their mental health. When the students saw the room for the first time, they were super excited, and student behavior has become much better, as students love coming to the room. \r\n\r\nAlternative education is a struggle for our students, but with the support of donors like you, we cannot only meet the needs of our students, but provide them a place to gain that trust that was lost in education. This is only the beginning, we plan to add more to the room to make it a place to have mental health sessions for our students, as by doing this, we not only help them progress, but we allow them to trust others again!","fullyFundedDate":1733272398288,"projectUrl":"project/turning-point-academy-mindfulness-room/8558085/","projectTitle":"Turning Point Academy Mindfulness Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rivera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7012473"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1628","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":209,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":73,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"6.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.1,"schoolId":1628,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Turning Point Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Turning Point Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/charlotte-mecklenburg-school-district/turning-point-academy/1628"}
