We were able to look at our bird houses from a safe distance as the baby tufted titmice were close to fledging. \r\n\r\nMostly, we used our equipment to clean out our nests after the bluebird babies fledged or in some sad instances, did not survive. Our second and fourth graders learned the true life cycle from nest building to eggs to hatchling to fledgling. \r\n\r\nWhen we came back to school in late summer/early fall, we continued to clean out three more nest boxes. Two of those boxes we did not even know existed until the children noticed them outside their new classroom windows. The third box still had babies in it during the summer when children were not here. \r\n\r\nWe carefully used the scraping tools to clean out old leaves, an abandoned bee nest, and a random feather. There were also many cockroaches (yikes!). The kids didn't seem bothered by it. They wore masks to keep them safe from breathing in any debris. Some chose to use face shields while others wore the goggles. \r\n\r\nAs we head into winter, it's time to put our boxes to rest and hope that some of our school birds will stay warm in them. When spring comes back around, we will take our equipment out and start the cycle all over again with new students who learn to care for our bluebirds. \r\n\r\nYour gift has made a lasting impact. If you chose to receive thank you notes from the students, know that they are still learning to write in English. Some also have learning disabilities on top of being multilingual, so on their behalf... thank you again!","fullyFundedDate":1746820296207,"projectUrl":"project/bluebird-nest-monitors-need-equipment/9311764/","projectTitle":"Bluebird Nest Monitors Need Equipment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mazur","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp191463_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1510750318198","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missmazur"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3191","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":357,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":53,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":81.3,"schoolId":3191,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ephesus Road Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ephesus Road Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/chapel-hill-carrboro-city-sd/ephesus-road-elementary-school/3191"}
