The cushions, bean bags, stools, and floor seats give students appropriate choices in how and where they learn best, which has increased both engagement and productivity throughout the day.\r\n\r\nSince introducing flexible seating, students are better able to regulate their bodies and attention. Many students who previously struggled to sit still at traditional desks can now choose seating that allows gentle movement or a more relaxed posture, helping them stay focused during lessons. This has reduced off-task behavior and allowed students to spend more time actively learning.\r\n\r\nFlexible seating has also strengthened collaboration and small-group learning. The seating options make it easy to transition into partner work, reading groups, and collaborative discussions. Students naturally gather in shared spaces, fostering communication, teamwork, and a stronger classroom community.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, flexible seating has helped students feel safe, valued, and respected. Allowing them to make responsible choices about their learning environment builds independence and confidence. Students take pride in caring for the seating and understand that these tools help everyone learn.\r\n\r\nOverall, flexible seating has transformed my classroom into a more inclusive, student-centered space where all learners—academically, socially, and emotionally—can thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1764722592481,"projectUrl":"project/comfortable-flexible-seating-for-engage/9708668/","projectTitle":"Comfortable, Flexible Seating for Engaged Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Berthold","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10256858_orig.jpg?crop=1290,1290,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760116898500","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10256858"},{"teacherId":9685783,"projectId":8671662,"letterContent":"My students and I are putting good use to the new resources and materials received thru donors choose. We have created snowman out of shapes and paper bags with the materials received. We also used the paper bags to create Valentine Day bags to hold all their special goodies from that day. The students use their circle time cushions every day to sit during our large group learning time. The cushions are also used to identify colors too! The paper plates and small square tissue paper has been utilized to create different projects such as flowers, rainbows, and shamrocks. The sensory bins received have been utilized for indoor recess time as a special activity. The felt board and pieces have been utilized during whole group to provide interactive learning during stories.\r\n\r\nThe students reacted with joy when they saw the new materials. They were most excited about the sensory bins and floor cushions! They still get excited about choosing a sensory bin to play with during special activity time and look forward to having indoor recess when the weather is too poor to go outside. The students have said the floor cushions have helped them find their own space on the rug and it is not so hard to sit because it is more comfortable. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students on a current classroom lesson is to use the materials to learn about plants that grow in a garden and create different plants using the large white paper, paper plates, and paper bags along with tissue paper and different fun materials provided by donors choose. The students and I have really enjoyed all the materials that have been received, and it has made the school year fun and exciting.","fullyFundedDate":1733152344916,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-excitement-and-the-joys-of/8671662/","projectTitle":"Creativity, Excitement, and the Joys of Learning While Being Comfy!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Megan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9685783_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723927488091","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9685783"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2401","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":78,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"7.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":2401,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Atlantic Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Atlantic Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/carteret-county-schools/atlantic-elementary-school/2401"}
