Using the new materials, students researched family stories, historical events, and cultural connections, then created their own lbooklets describing what happened in history and highlighting personal narratives. This hands-on project helped students connect past events to real experiences, deepening their understanding of migration and its impact on communities.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled when they first received the materials and began working. They eagerly shared discoveries about Italian immigrant families, comparing experiences in the U.S. and Argentina, and discussed how migration has shaped cultural identity in both countries. The project inspired thoughtful conversations in class and encouraged students to reflect on their own family histories and connections across borders.\r\n\r\nAs a next step, students will continue building \"bridges\" between Argentina and the United States by presenting their booklets to peers, creating visual timelines, and exploring further questions about immigration, cultural exchange, and heritage. Your contribution has made it possible for students to engage meaningfully with history while practicing critical thinking, research, and writing skills. We are grateful for your support in making this learning experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1742582347523,"projectUrl":"project/bridging-histories-immigration-stories/9115896/","projectTitle":"“Bridging Histories: Immigration Stories Between the U.S. and Argentina”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Andriossi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9925133_orig.jpg?crop=1967,1967,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739651911029","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9925133"},{"teacherId":9688549,"projectId":8675582,"letterContent":"Our middle school is in its third year of existence. It's a beautiful school but it lacks a strong sense of culture -- ie, \"This is who we are.\" \r\n\r\nWhat we'd like to build is a culture of reading. Our media center staff is highly engaged with instruction and planning, always inviting teachers, regardless of discipline, to incorporate strong reading and comprehension practices in their instruction.\r\n\r\nThat's great! ... and yet we lack the resources to fund what's most important: books. There are very few books in the classrooms and only a handful of books that could be used for an all-class read. Your gift has helped us build small reading groups where groups of 4-5 students can choose a book that interests them from among the many you donated. They love the variety! Thank you so much for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1724528660797,"projectUrl":"project/in-class-library/8675582/","projectTitle":"In-Class Library","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. W","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9688549"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131482","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":902,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":72.0,"schoolId":131482,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Roberta Road Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Roberta Road Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/cabarrus-county-school-district/roberta-road-middle-school/131482"}
