Having multiple copies of each book means more students can read at the same time, which helps us dive into meaningful discussions and prepare as a team for the county competition in the spring.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks collaborative and purposeful. Students are learning to read closely for details, compare characters across books, and think critically about themes—all skills that will help them succeed in the competition and as lifelong readers. They love practicing by quizzing each other on story events and sharing their favorite moments, which builds both comprehension and confidence.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who don't usually see themselves as \"competitive\" readers are especially enjoying this project. One student told me, \"I like that it feels like we're on a team, not just reading by ourselves.\" Another is already halfway through the list and can't wait to help coach her teammates.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has turned reading into both a challenge and a celebration for our students, and we can't wait to see them shine this spring!","fullyFundedDate":1746798659903,"projectUrl":"project/let-the-book-battles-begin/9258978/","projectTitle":"Let the Book Battles Begin!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Harwood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp375779_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1462100898516","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/n-harwood"},{"teacherId":1097772,"projectId":9192719,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our students through the Read, Collaborate, and Compete grant! Because of your generosity, our classrooms are buzzing with excitement as students dive into new stories and discuss new texts.\r\n\r\nThe texts are helping students build strong reading skills—like understanding character motivation, exploring themes, and citing evidence to back up their ideas. But beyond that, the books are teaching collaboration and perseverance, as students learn to work together.\r\n\r\nReading looks vibrant in our classroom. Students select their books from my rolling cart that keeps the titles moving from reader to reader and classroom to classroom across our school. They meet with me in reading conferences to set goals and share insights, and they practice teamwork by discussing their books with peers. There's a real sense of community around these texts—our cart is always in motion, and students are always talking about what they've discovered.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in us and our LOVE of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1746793510118,"projectUrl":"project/read-collaborate-compete/9192719/","projectTitle":"Read, Collaborate, Compete","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brantley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1097772_orig.jpg?crop=1360,1360,x937,y584&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660046420817","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mptigers"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2376","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":679,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.3,"schoolId":2376,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mount Pleasant Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mount Pleasant Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/cabarrus-county-school-district/mt-pleasant-elementary-school/2376"}
