Your generous donation has impacted our classroom by giving students the tools to be organized in their class. \r\n\r\nBefore we had binders provided, students would collect their papers in folders or in messy stacks. With binders, we were able to create labeled sections, learn the basics of paper organization, and easily access papers from our prior learning. Now, when students have an open-binder assessment, they can easily find and reference what they need. We also talked about how in the future, they can replicate the process of getting their papers organized for their classes on their own.\r\n\r\nAnother item we received was chart paper for anchor charts. As an ESOL classroom, we have reference posters all over the room that students can use to help remember terms, ask questions, or respond appropriately. The addition of more chart paper helps us keep adding necessary information to our walls.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for seeing us. We feel deeply grateful for your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1730837858557,"projectUrl":"project/binders-chart-paper-for-our-esl-classr/8906791/","projectTitle":"Binders & Chart Paper for Our ESL Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nicholson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3300692_orig.jpg?crop=1158,1158,x0,y308&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730224778916","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3300692"},{"teacherId":9743597,"projectId":8766148,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution to my school's library. With your help, I was able to increase the number of multilingual books in my library by 200%. Before the project was funded our \"ESL\" genre (English as second language) only took up three shelves of our library. One shelf was solely dedicated to Spanish to English dictionaries. Now, our multilingual section has expanded across nine shelves, and has been able to be \"genrefied\" - meaning it resembles the rest of our library. In our school, the library is organized by genre (realistic fiction, historical fiction, fantasy and so on). Before the project was funded, our multilingual section was thrown all together. Now our ESL students are able to browse the books in their language, like they would in the rest of our library. \r\n\tFrom the day we put out the books funded with your support, they have flown off the shelf. Even with all of the books that we've purchased, there are weeks where the shelves look like nothing has been bought - because all of the books have been checked out. There are many days where a Spanish copy of \"Percy Jackson,\" doesn't even make it out of the return box before someone has requested it next. Despite our multilingual books only taking up 2% of collection, the section accounts for 9% of circulation. This is on pace with other popular genres like Horror and Fantasy. Being able to grow the multilingual book collection has not only improved our circulation for the multilingual section, but circulation in our library as whole.\r\n\tMajority of Language Arts teachers dedicate the first ten minutes of their class to \"SSR\" time, or silent sustained reading. During this time, students are to read quietly for ten minutes, any book of their choice. Before this project was funded, some emerging language students had to translate online websites to find something they enjoyed reading for pleasure. Now, with our expanded collection, these students are able to enjoy SSR time, with a book in their native language AND a book that they are actually interested in. Being able to find pleasure in reading at school increases participation in our ELA classes and builds reading endurance (an essential skill for end-of-year testing). By funding this project and building our multilingual collection, there has been a sizable impact throughout the entire school building. I am incredibly grateful for this project. To help students find books of interest in their native language is a thrilling moment that now occurs every day in our library\r\n\tOnce again, thank you for your generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1730300772451,"projectUrl":"project/building-our-multilingual-library/8766148/","projectTitle":"Building Our Multilingual Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hudson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9743597"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2335","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":540,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.8,"schoolId":2335,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Clyde A Erwin Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Clyde A Erwin Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/buncombe-county-school-district/clyde-a-erwin-middle-school/2335"}
