Thank you for investing in hands-on science experiences for my students!\r\n\r\nWe are actively using the new materials to explore enzymes, plant biology, and cell structure in ways that go far beyond a textbook. One of our favorite moments so far was during our enzyme lab. Students investigated how temperature affects enzyme activity, collected real data, and graphed their results. Instead of just memorizing that enzymes denature at high temperatures, they actually saw it happen. The room was buzzing with excitement as students compared results and tried to explain why their reactions slowed down or stopped. It was one of those moments where learning felt real and meaningful.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students couldn't wait to put on goggles and begin experimenting. Having professional-quality lab materials made them feel like real scientists, and that sense of ownership and pride was powerful to witness.\r\n\r\nNext, we are building on our investigations by connecting enzymes and cell structures to larger biological systems. Students will be designing their own mini-experiments, testing variables that impact plant processes, and creating models to demonstrate how cells function as systems. We are also beginning a deeper dive into how structure determines function; tying together everything they've explored so far. The goal is for students not only to understand the concepts, but to think critically, analyze data, and communicate scientific reasoning with confidence.\r\n\r\nYour support has transformed our classroom into a place where science is not just learned ; it is experienced. Thank you for making that possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1762707459532,"projectUrl":"project/science-in-action-exploring-enzymes-pl/9807715/","projectTitle":"Science in Action: Exploring Enzymes, Plants, and Cells","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Schulte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1866439_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1479224856938","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-lewis-science"},{"teacherId":1866439,"projectId":9426810,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our class with the Pigging Out on Science project! Because of your generosity, we had the chance to step into the shoes of scientists and work with real lab specimens; a fetal pig, sheep brains, and cow eyes!\r\n\r\nWhen we began this unit, many of us had only seen diagrams of body systems in textbooks. Because of you, we got to see, touch, and explore what those systems look like in a real organism. We examined how organs and tissues are organized, made connections between structure and function, and asked; \"Why does this look like this?\" and \"How does that help the organism?\"\r\n\r\nHere are some moments that meant the most to us:\r\n\r\nAt the lab table, one student exclaimed, \"Wow, this is real—we're actually dissecting!\" and instantly the class buzzed with curiosity. \r\n\r\nWe worked in teams, passing scalpels carefully, sharing observations, comparing what we thought we'd see vs. what we found. Our collaboration got stronger.\r\n\r\nWe realized things like: the heart's valves aren't just flaps ; they're designed to keep blood flowing in one direction; the brain's \"wrinkles\" increase surface area; the eye's structure shows how light enters and is processed.\r\n\r\nSome of us said: \"This is the moment I know I want to be a vet/doctor/scientist.\" Having these real materials opened the door from \"I'm curious about science\" to \"I can do science.\"\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we now understand body systems much more deeply — not just in theory, but in practice. We feel more confident asking questions, designing ideas, and imagining what we might study or do in the future.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in us and investing in our learning. You've given us tools, but more importantly you've given us inspiration.
