Even though I teach high school students, they love the joke books, and I have incorporated the jokes into my math worksheets to make class more fun and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe math activity books have been equally impactful. During our recent algebra unit, I used The Algebra Teacher's Activity-a-Day to start class with short problem-solving challenges, which kept students engaged and built their confidence before tackling bigger lessons. Hands-On Algebra has provided creative, game-based activities that even my more reluctant learners enjoy.\r\n\r\nStudents also loved the puzzles and projects from the Mark Twain Math Projects Activity Book. One group especially enjoyed the geometry activities, working together to solve shape challenges. The collaborative approach from Cooperative Learning & Algebra has encouraged teamwork, and I've noticed students supporting each other in ways they didn't before.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am excited to use strategies from Teaching Mathematics Meaningfully and Differentiating Instruction in Algebra 1 to reach students who struggle, giving them new ways to access challenging concepts. Next week, we will try activities from Teaching Math with Google Apps to connect digital tools with problem-solving.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students more than books—it has brought laughter, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment into our classroom. Many of my students prefer working while standing, and these desks give them the flexibility to move and stay engaged during lessons. During a recent group activity on solving quadratic equations, several students gathered around one of the standing desks to collaborate. Their energy and focus remained high throughout the activity, and they were eager to share their solutions with the class. The pencils have also been an essential resource. They are used daily for practice problems, classwork, and assessments, and students appreciate always having what they need available.\r\n\r\nWhen the desks first arrived, my students were excited to see them set up in the classroom. Several asked right away if they could use them, and it quickly became clear that these desks would be in high demand. The reliable supply of pencils has also eliminated the stress some students felt when they forgot their own materials, creating a more consistent learning environment.\r\n\r\nCurrently, my students are working on a unit in Algebra 2 that focuses on exponential and logarithmic functions. They are engaging in collaborative problem-solving and graphing activities, and the new desks provide a perfect space for partner work. Pencils are fervently moving across papers as new information permeates impressionable minds; as such, the X-ACTO 1670 School Pro Classroom Electric Pencil Sharpener is already getting much use! They have made their classroom space more inviting, and my students are enjoying them. For example, when students are asked to work on higher level thinking questions, they enjoy the bean bag chairs and fidget toys to help them relax, and decompress so they can think at a high level. Furthermore, during lectures they often say the cushions help them stay comfortable and take in more information. They are not focused on how uncomfortable they are.\r\n\r\nMy students were excited when they first saw the materials. They arranged the chairs so on their own, began playing with the fidget toys, and grabbed the cushions. They mentioned it felt more like 'home.' \r\n\r\nNext steps are to add lamps, and more chairs and cushions. We often have some of the lights out, but if we could acquire lamps we could have all of the lights out. Also, many students use laptops and we use a computer screen at the front of the room, so there is plenty of light from those screens. The lamps would allow less overhead, 'strong' light, and offer a more relaxing atmosphere.\r\n\r\nThank you!","fullyFundedDate":1732718347491,"projectUrl":"project/relax-and-enjoy-history/8798690/","projectTitle":"Relax and Enjoy History","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9758214"},{"teacherId":9756997,"projectId":8797967,"letterContent":"With your generous donations, the materials provided for the \"Calming, Comfortizing, and Cooling the French Classroom\" project have made a positive impact, particularly on my senior class. Combined in part with the wonderful rapport the students and I share due to our three years together, the seat cushions add a sense of physical comfort to match the emotional ease we enjoy as a close-knit group of francophiles. There were audible \"oohs\" and \"ahhs\" the first day the students sat on the cushions. They were pleased to use the \"bonfire\" sound on the sound machine to match our faux feu de joie (fake bonfire) for a mini French ghost story telling project. At our school, the art room is a safe haven- a space where students can escape from the pressures of daily life and explore the vast landscape of their imaginations. Your donation has opened the door to endless possibilities, enabling students to dive deeper into their artistic journeys without the constraints of limited materials. \r\nOne of the activities that was a hit was the Mandala Window Clings. I have included some photos. Another activity that was a crowd pleaser was the 5D Diamond Sticker Kit. We agree to songs that are appropriate when students are completing class work. Many say they work better with background music, so I try to make the environment as comfortable as possible for the students. Lastly, we choose an exit song to close out class. The exit song is typically chosen by the students but occasionally I choose the tune. If nothing else, it gets them excited to come to class which is half the battle with learning, engaging the students! From what I've seen thus far, music bridges the gap between kids in terms of social-economic status.... They like have the option for a non traditional place to sit during class. Those that would normally need to get up constantly or fidget, are doing so less often. This is incredibly helpful in our classes as they are 80 minutes long, and students can easily become restless in that time. \r\n\r\nNext steps in this project are to expand my flexible seating options for students and continue to provide them with snacks throughout the day so they can concentrate more on learning and not being hungry.","fullyFundedDate":1726797285412,"projectUrl":"project/meeting-student-basic-and-mental-health/8798057/","projectTitle":"Meeting Student Basic and Mental Health Needs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Halligan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9742752"},{"teacherId":9753794,"projectId":8792820,"letterContent":"I hope this letter finds you all in great spirits.
