They loved getting their hands in soil and watching their plants grow from seeds into thriving plants. \r\n\r\nOne of the highlights of the experience was learning how they could turn their produce into meals and snacks ready to eat. They particularly loved learning how to turn their cucumbers into tasty pickles. They were able to fill several mason jars and created 3 separate pickle flavors (dill, spicy and half-sour). They created fun labels, a pickle mascot and even called their pickle business \"The Pickle People\". They loved learning and exploring every step of the process from our garden to the jar! \r\n\r\nYour kindness helped create a fun, educational, and empowering experience that our students won't forget. We are so excited to start this gardening project at our school. I would love to give you a little backstory on who I am and what my students are like. My name is Kristen, I knew I wanted to become a Physical Education teacher when my love for sports and fitness never fizzled out. I grew up a competitive soccer player with a single mom after my dad passed away very young. She always inspired me to continue what I love. When I first saw the posting for this school, I was super nervous, but decided to give it a shot. I live on Long Island and commute here to Elmhurst, NY. \r\n\r\nI knew the population had students with sever disabilities, but with no experience besides one year of teaching elementary, I knew it would be interesting (and challenging) to dive into a District 75 school in NYC. These students have hanged my life forever. They are kind, funny, unique, and will love all their heart. When I saw my list for them was funded, I felt overwhelmed with gratitude and disbelief. Starting out with an empty classroom (more like half a classroom) and a few sports balls, to now having balance beams, step trackers, yoga balls, agility equipment, more sports equipment is quite the miracle for us. My students range in ability but have proven they can push their limits and try new things they have never seen before. This is because YOU made this possible. \r\n\r\nFor me, teaching is not about the things you have. I came in ready to build connections and just simply be there for my students when they need me, and get them to move their bodies and have fun while doing it. You helped me open up so much opportunity for them, and I was also able to teach them that there is still kind people in this world. Sometimes, their days are filled with sadness and a lot of emotions from their home lives. I am doing my best to give them a safe place, somewhere they can forget about real life for a little while. \r\n\r\nI just hope you know, it was more than just a list of materials. It is my whole heart poured into a program to help change lives here in our small corner of NYC\r\n\r\nThank you thank you thank you!","fullyFundedDate":1730788751520,"projectUrl":"project/help-build-from-scratch-my-special-educt/8814374/","projectTitle":"Help Build From Scratch My Special Eduction P.E.
