As a special education teacher in a 6:1:1 classroom, I rely heavily on multisensory learning to help my students engage, regulate, and participate in academic tasks. Since receiving the sensory table, it has become the center of our classroom routine. We've used it for color-sorting bins, letter hunts, number matching, and calming sensory exploration. My students immediately gravitated toward it—some ran their hands through the materials with huge smiles, while others became focused and calm in a way that allowed them to attend to learning tasks longer than ever before.\r\n\r\nThe table has already supported real academic growth. During our Fundations lessons, students are practicing identifying letters hidden in kinetic sand. During math, they scoop and sort \"counting clouds,\" helping them match numbers 1–10 with visuals. For science, we used the table to explore textures as part of our \"Using Our Senses\" unit. Students who typically struggle with transitions now eagerly move to the sensory station because it motivates them and gives them ownership of their learning.\r\nOur next steps are to continue building thematic sensory bins aligned with upcoming lessons—from weather, to shapes and patterns, to winter literacy activities. Your generosity has helped create a space where my students feel safe, engaged, and successful. Thank you for believing in my classroom and giving my students the tools they need to learn in the way that works best for them.","fullyFundedDate":1760533322920,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-play/9786185/","projectTitle":"Sensory Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gaby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10007482_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760302920838","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10007482"},{"teacherId":10007482,"projectId":9766222,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom through the Tech Tools for Bright Minds project. Your generosity has brought meaningful technology into our self-contained special education room, and it is already transforming the way my students learn each day. Many of my students are emerging communicators and rely heavily on visuals, interactive learning, and hands-on activities. The new tech tools have allowed them to access lessons in ways that are engaging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.\r\n\r\nWith these tools, my students can now participate in interactive literacy and math lessons, follow routines using visual supports, and engage in meaningful communication practice. Technology has been especially powerful for my non-verbal and emerging-verbal learners, giving them a way to point, tap, respond, and show what they know. For example, one student who typically struggles to stay engaged has shown newfound excitement during lessons, eagerly tapping letters and sounds and celebrating when he gets them right. This boost in confidence and participation has been incredible to witness.\r\nThe most exciting part for my students has been how fun learning feels now—colorful visuals, interactive games, and touch-based responses keep them motivated and proud of themselves. Your support has brought independence, confidence, and joy to students who need a learning environment tailored to them. My students have been using the kinetic sand and Play-Doh daily during literacy stations, morning choice time, and sensory breaks. These materials support fine-motor development, sensory regulation, and language skills — all essential areas for my learners.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was during a literacy activity where students listened to a story and then created characters and scenes using the Play-Doh. Students who normally struggle with attention and expressive language were suddenly so engaged — pointing, naming, and describing what they built. Seeing their ideas come to life in their hands helped build confidence and spark conversation in such a natural way.\r\n\r\nThe first day we introduced the materials, my students were absolutely overjoyed. They lit up as soon as they saw the bins come out — several of them immediately sat down and began exploring with huge smiles. I heard excited words like \"squishy!\" and \"look what I made!\" For some of my students with sensory needs, the calming effect was instant. They were focused, grounded, and visibly more relaxed as they molded and sifted through the sand.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students now have meaningful sensory tools that support their learning, emotional regulation, and creativity every single day. We are so grateful — these materials truly make our classroom a happier, more engaging learning space.","fullyFundedDate":1741877525679,"projectUrl":"project/wellness-is-welcome/9159821/","projectTitle":"Wellness is Welcome!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kenya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9063566"},{"teacherId":6819839,"projectId":9292292,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, school has been transformed into a space filled with joy, calm, and purpose. Each day, my students take charge of setting up and maintaining our sensory wellness area, which has become an important part of our community service and daily routine. Every morning, students set out the spinning chair, busy boards, and magna-tile bins, turning an ordinary corner into a hub of sensory exploration. They also restock our sensory cart, filled with chew necklaces, pop tubes, and other tactile tools that help students regulate and refocus throughout the day. Nearby, we have a small \"Brain Fuel\" snack station where students can grab a Capri Sun, Goldfish crackers, or fruit snacks to recharge their minds before returning to learning. When the materials first arrived, the excitement was contagious. Students were immediately drawn to the spinning chair, laughing and smiling as they discovered how it helped them calm their bodies. Others explored the busy boards and sensory mats with curiosity and joy, engaging with textures, lights, and switches. Watching them take ownership of this space has been incredibly rewarding. Moving forward, my students will continue leading this community project each day and will begin adding wellness check-ins to reflect on how the sensory space helps them self-regulate and prepare for learning. We also plan to invite other classes to visit and use the area, fostering empathy, inclusion, and connection across grade levels. Your donations did more than provide materials; they created moments of pride, joy, and calm for students who need it most. They explored the sensory items right away and were eager to sit at their new desks to read, write, and create. These tools are already helping them transition between activities more smoothly and giving them the confidence to try new tasks.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our classroom feels more welcoming and organized. It was a hands-on, sensory-rich experience that brought so much joy to our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe moment the students saw the flowers and materials, their faces lit up with excitement. Many of our students benefit from tactile activities, and planting flowers allowed them to engage in a way that felt personal and rewarding. Families were moved by the gesture, and it created a special moment of connection between home and school.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our students got to participate in a real-world activity that supported fine motor skills, following directions, and social-emotional development.
