The flexible seating is used daily during math centers, collaborative science discussions, and independent reading time. Students naturally seek out the spots that help them focus or work closely with their peers, and the environment feels more inviting and student-centered because of it. One standout moment was when students worked in small groups during a science lab and comfortably gathered in circles to share their observations.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials—especially the reading corner I created with the mini table, rug, and the solar system mobile hanging above—they were absolutely amazed. They couldn't stop talking about how it felt like stepping into \"another dimension,\" and they immediately began imagining it as their special zone for reading, brainstorming, and quiet work. Their excitement and wonder made the reveal truly unforgettable.\r\n\r\nRight now in ELA, we are beginning a realistic fiction writing unit, and the flexible seating has already boosted students' creativity and focus. They spread out across the room—some drafting character sketches at the mini table, others curled up on the rug planning story arcs, and a few tucked beneath the solar system mobile imagining the \"world\" their characters might live in. The new seating options have made the brainstorming process feel more natural and fun, and students are more eager than ever to share their ideas. Your support has helped create a writing environment where students feel inspired, confident, and excited to bring their stories to life.","fullyFundedDate":1746787178904,"projectUrl":"project/flex-your-space-creative-seating-for-ev/9232757/","projectTitle":"Flex Your Space: Creative Seating for Every Learner","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kazaoka","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9680177"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21671","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":634,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":21671,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lisha Kill Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lisha Kill Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/south-colonie-central-school-district/lisha-kill-middle-school/21671"}
