Using the new poster paper and markers, students created interactive PSA posters focused on harmful algae blooms in Lake Champlain—a real environmental issue that directly affects our region.\r\n\r\nStudents worked in teams to design detailed maps of Lake Champlain, labeling where algae blooms occur, explaining what causes them, and highlighting why they are dangerous to people, pets, and ecosystems. The high-quality materials allowed students to clearly communicate complex information using visuals, color-coding, diagrams, and concise scientific explanations. One powerful moment was watching students debate how to best show nutrient runoff or how to make their warning messages clear for a public audience—exactly the kind of authentic STEM thinking we strive for.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new supplies, their excitement was immediate. They took pride in their work, carefully planning layouts and asking thoughtful questions about how to make their posters both accurate and eye-catching. Many commented that their posters \"looked professional\" and felt like something that could be displayed in the community, not just the classroom.\r\n\r\nNext, students will present their PSA posters to peers, practicing public speaking and scientific communication skills. We will also reflect on how science can be used to educate and protect communities, connecting this project to future lessons on ecosystems, human impact on the environment, and real-world problem solving. Because of you, students didn't just learn about harmful algae blooms—they became environmental advocates.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students the tools to make their learning visible, meaningful, and impactful.","fullyFundedDate":1750255563983,"projectUrl":"project/stem-presentation-pop-with-interactive-p/9299953/","projectTitle":"STEM Presentation Pop with Interactive Posters!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Silvernail","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5756366_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721691189515","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5756366"},{"teacherId":5756366,"projectId":9196238,"letterContent":"I want to share the impact this program has made for my students. As a middle school English teacher in a small, rural district in upstate New York, I cannot express enough how meaningful your contribution has been for my students. In our community, the majority of our learners qualify for free or reduced lunch, and access to high-quality books at home is often limited. Your donation has opened doors that many of them don't normally get to walk through.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our classroom now has 30 brand-new copies of The Maze Runner, Among the Hidden and The City Of Ember to complement our reading of The Giver by Lois Lowry. Your donation has allowed us to run meaningful, student-centered literature circles for the first time. The excitement when the students saw the books was incredible. In fact, several asked if they could start reading immediately! They love having their own copy to read, explore, and discuss deeply with their groups.\r\n\r\nThese books have transformed our unit. Students are engaging in thoughtful conversations about choice, individuality, memory, and freedom. They're learning to listen to one another, question the text, and support their ideas with evidence. For many of my students, literature circles have become the part of our class that they look forward to most.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made it possible for every student, regardless of their circumstances,to participate fully. You didn't just fund books; you funded confidence, curiosity, and a love of reading that I know will last far beyond this unit.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students and myself, thank you for believing in them and investing in their education.
